Re: No work new year's day
Fair point.
I'm just lucky I guess to have reached that old age where a 'seen all this s**t or similar before' ethos means I waste little time worrying about much these days.
But I wasn't always like that and appreciate others aren't.
Apologies if I came across as glib, it wasn't my intention.
Sooner or later, a beat dog bites.

Decision to grant an exception to Royal
Mail’s universal service obligations
No requirement for deliveries and collections
throughout the United Kingdom on 1 January 2022
Ofcom agrees 1 January 2022 is a non-service day
We are very pleased to report that Ofcom has granted an exception to the universal service throughout the United Kingdom for Saturday 1 January 2022. This means that Royal Mail does not have to collect or deliver mail on that day.
To allow colleagues to rest and recuperate after the busy peak period, Royal Mail will also observe the substitute public holiday on 3 January and, in Scotland, the additional substitute public holiday on 4 January.
Due to the way the public holidays fall, we needed to request an exception for Saturday 1 January to be a non-working day. 1 January is generally a public holiday. However, in 2022, when this date falls on a Saturday, the following Monday has been designated as the official public holiday.
Royal Mail would like to thank Ofcom for its consultation and decision on this matter and also thank colleagues for their patience as we awaited the outcome.
Please make sure all team members are informed at the earliest opportunity, including any colleagues returning from deliveries this afternoon.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: No work new year's day
Makes me laugh how Ofcom still use the language of “requirement to deliver letters” when they’re trying to drum it into us that we’re a parcel company that delivers letters, now, not a letter company that delivers parcels

Re: No work new year's day
There won't be anyone in the MC or if there is it'll be a skeleton staff so the arctic drivers will have to unload their own arctics/lorries. If there's not the staff to process the mail then some lorries will have to be left at the MCs as the MCs will run out of warehouse space

Re: No work new year's day
Am i right in thinking that those scheduled day off Saturday 1st will not be eligible for a days pay or a lieu day back as its not an official bank holiday?

Re: No work new year's day
Good point I think you're correct although if it's a proper long weekend you'll get one for the bank holiday Monday, you'd like to hope a manager would avoid allocating Saturday off to reserve postie's though especially as there are two official bank holidays in the same week.

Are we suppose to be grateful for not having to work New Year’s Day?
