Well, to be honest, on this subject, as with many others, Royal Mail seems to be in a bit of a mess.

I have a note on my door. it says: 'Please leave any parcels in box down side and has an arrow on it.'
Amazon, DPD and Hermes always leaves my parcels. Royal Mail does not.
If I was invited to take part in a customer satisfaction survey, therefore, Royal Mail would be last.

Does anyone actually think that someone would find a suitable house ... stick a note on the door saying put parcels in this place... and then stalk it out?
Come on.
According to Jeremy Vine on Radio 2, gangs are following Amazon, DPD and other couriers around and taking 100's of parcels from doorsteps and staging scams all over the country.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Customer receives packets daily. Rarely in. No near neighbours. Today, an open tub appears next to the door with a note attached saying 'please leave parcels here'. I didn't leave the parcels as a) unsecure b) open to the elements and c) it's still doorstepping. Is this right?
Is the note inside the window or outside? If outside, could be anyone wanting a free parcel.

believe me post revision and hitting this Christmas s**t storm of parcels, i reckon 80% of my office are happily doorstepping to finish at something like a reasonable time. As has been said , customers are so used to other couriers doorstepping its seen as normal practice. TBH i always leave in porches but never leave anything out in the open or in general view.

In my experience as a part timer if you start at the official starting time and take your break you can't finish at a reasonable time without chucking D2Ds and doorstopping.

Even doing this you'll still probably not finish on time. This is what the job has become. Utter drudgery.

F£ck Royal Mail get out ASAP or do what you've got to do. There is no time for pride in the job because they don't have time for you as a human being.

So if we follow these in-flight requests we can't get in any trouble?
And the recipient takes the responsibility. Does the recipient know they are signing away any claim?

I very much doubt it, it is something I can't recall either Martin Lewis or the BBC One Show ever highlighting the dangers. The clever thing to do is for a customer just to stick a note on the door not do it via the website etc then, if the parcel is stolen, it's still RM picking up the loss.

I just looked at the terms

Does Safeplace guarantee first-time delivery?

No, because in a very small number of cases it won't be possible to follow the customer's Safeplace instructions. Examples of these include: if it would be dangerous for us to access the nominated point; if the item would be exposed to bad weather; or if the nominated point is clearly insecure. As an example, places we wouldn’t consider safe are bins, including recycling bins, doorsteps and underneath parked cars.

So I guess invisible porches won't count either :no no

Had one like this on a delivery I’m covering said on the door “ Don’t knock leave all parcels in box”. Did what they said even took a picture of the note and box few days later they complained saying they hadn’t received the parcel showed manager the evidence was told to P739 everything.

There is an option on the scanner to put it not delivered, safeplace not safe, I always use that option in ridiculous cases like that.

Do "safeplaces" really exist? If you can gain access to place it in a "safeplace" then someone else can gain access to steal it

But if you follow that argument to its logical conclusion not even the Customer Service Point is secure because someone could gain access to it and steal stuff.
Maybe they should call it "probably safeenoughplace"

I had a lady chase me down the road today..
“Excuse me, but you left a card for my parcel the other day just day, everybody else just leaves them on the doorstep, everyone else does… they know me, nobody gives me a card and you’ve given me a card and I don’t have time to pick it up”

Had to painfully explain that this was a parcel that required a photo and she had not nominated her porch etc as a safe place, and that is why I had to return it to SO. Also, m very aware “everybody else” just leaves them on the friggin doorstep, it’s clear for everyone to see!! I also returned a parcel yesterday although it did have safe place it said “somewhere safe”. Where the hell they think this is, or if I’ve got the time to go exploring around the property for somewhere adequate, they’d be the people to call in should I leave their parcel out in the rain! Today had to re-deliver with request to a shed about bloody half a mile away, down steps and then up some and down again.. people have no idea.
