Then they say, but we will pay you at SA rate! Which is only 33p more than the normal overtime rate.
SA rates need to be reviewed. Your better off claiming pressure OT when the holiday pay is added.
this month isnt included in your holiday pay .
Yes it is

It's definitely not worth it, if you aren't going to get your 8+ hours overtime for each month in a qualifying period for holiday pay reflecting your overtime.

If they want "sporadic" overtime claimers to stay out and complete, they should offer them double rate overtime, which is effectively what the regular overtimers now get if they qualify for extra holiday pay.
Double? Really? Think your maths is out there. You get it paid, and rightly so, for 4 weeks when you're on holiday.
Nothing like everyone purchases annual leave, or has been an RM employee for long enough to get free extra leave, to get up to six weeks holiday a year. For many, they will only have four complete weeks a year, so if they qualify for extra holiday pay through overtime their overtime is effectively double rate.

IMO the CWU should have been jumping on the OT rate years ago. It's shite and just encourages RM to under-recruit and rely on the current staff to do the extra OT. :no no

The CWU goes on about "Needing to retain the opportunity for staff to earn more OT", but I feeel we've moved on from that situation :hmmmm Now we're at the point that Posties are struggling to deal with their normal days Delivery. IF RM want us to do even more they need to start offering a better deal than the current OT rates.

As for the ridiculous idea of the OT actually reducing when you've done over 10 hours .... thats just crazy. It's needs revisiting by the CWU (RM obviously love it). If SA is only 33p extra it's a least better than losing over £1 because you've worked longer.

IF RM had to pay a decent OT rate (say Time & a half) I bet you'd suddenly see a steep increase in recruiting new staff to keep the OT levels dowm. :pray IMO that's how it should work and the "Overtime Bandits" can kiss my ass. :cuppa

Add that Terry Bullshitter is now saying there is no 70 hour cap and you can see where his priorities lie!

And before anyone tells me to cancel my CWU subs, I am currently getting good support from the local rep - I feel sorry for him and the way the top level of the union are shitting on everyone!

Simon Thomson

"Now we always keep an eye on pay rates, and ours are, of course, amongst the best in the industry, and along with the rest of the things that we offer, we believe definitely amongst the best in the industry.

Now other organisations can pay more than their standard rate for overtime, but I think it's fair to say that where that is the case, we have a big difference between the standard rate in the overtime rate perhaps 'their' standard rates are not quite as good as ours.

I think the other thing as well that I would say on this topic is as we equalise our workload thanks to the revisions process which we're really happy with the progress on that we do want to make sure that overtime opportunities are available to everybody on a fair basis as well."

If you do the min 8 hrs a month and clock up, say for example, 100 hrs overtime in 6 months, you will receive around £100 in holiday pay for that 6 month period. If, as you claim, your overtime rate 'doubles' , you would receive £1216 . So. Clearly. Your overtime rate does not 'double'.

If a part timer does the minimum 8 hours overtime a month for the six month qualifying period, split evenly, roughly that's ~2 hours overtime a week. Very crudely at £12 per hour, that's £24 gross pay per week. On their four holiday weeks, they will get ~2 hours overtime holiday bonus, ~£24 gross in addition to their contract hours.

By gross pay, their overtime pay is effectively double rate for those first four holiday weeks, compared to someone who does less than 8 hours overtime every month in a six month qualifying period.

First it's only 2 weeks holiday pay for each 6 month period. On your example they get £48 gross for their holiday pay, for working 48 hrs overtime. I make it £1 extra per hr of overtime worked over the 6 month period. Hardly 'double' eh?
