A few months ago our gaffer was on sick

The section ran like clockwork staff seemed so much happier that they didn't have a manager coming round badgering them with a clipboard in hand
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

The feeling of knowing that you'll not be finishing on time when seeing your frame/york(s) first thing in the morning.. And then deciding how much letters to fail in order to get close to finish time.

Unrealistic work loads been in the job 25 years no one’s ever been on my case about my work performance in this or any of my previous jobs, all of a sudden make the walks impossible to finish, take 24 minute off my working day Throw Christmas in the mix,cut the parcel help and hire vans, and my round not being covered on rest day,all of a sudden I’ve a manager breathing fire as to why I can barely take a letter out as I’m to busy doing the hundreds of tracked items

Yeah this. Coming in 20 minutes early but wasting it putting in d2ds knowing there's no chance of completing. I want to shout "I'm part time and that's how I like it".

Working your backside off to the point of exhaustion in an attempt to reduce how much you cut off and to get all tracked done, all the while knowing you’ll be talked down to and made to feel like youve done something wrong by your manager.

Nothing particularly. My biggest fear is losing my job as I have a mortgage and young family to support, given it would appear nearly impossible to get sacked at Royal Mail I don't really stress about anything. Yes management can be tools, but as long as you work your hours there's little can be done to you.

I am a day off cover so not all might experience these.

1) Covering for posties who "never leave a card" and will dump items in bins, sticking out of letterboxes, in open plant containers etc. and if you leave a card they read it out in front of everyone on the sorting like you did something wrong for not doorstepping it.
2) Covering for "I never leave anything" tryhards who will either not take their break, run around and kill themselves, or doorstep (see above) to get finished on time.
3) Having to do extra work because of sandbagging heel-draggers and people who stand at their frame, facing away from their frame, nattering holding 1 letter instead of doing work, and then leave stuff that the rest of us have to take.
4) People not fueling vans after running them down to red
5) People leaving van full of rubbish
6) People not doing DPF
7) People accusing ME falsely of not doing DPF to the point where I now photograph the dash every time I park up the van in the yard
8) The increasing-length run up to Christmas. Christmas music and Christmas jumpers at work on the 1st of December. I don't understand how anyone can be merry about getting hammered every day for a month. My Christmas spirit doesn't show up until I am done on the 24th.
9) The childishness of some other posties
10) People leaving diarrhea up the front (how?) of the toilet and not even flushing it
11) People who take 15 cigarette breaks and the rest of us have to cover their work
12) Baseless accusations leading to a "Guilty Until Proven Innocent" situation with your co-workers
13) Spineless managers
14) The above not challenging certain members of staff because they are scared of them, who never have to sort, never have to explain why they are leaving mail, always tied down 30 minutes before everyone else, never asked to take extra etc.
15) 10 different apps for holidays, parcels, uniform and half of them don't work properly.
16) PDA is within 20 feet of a water molecule and the screen stops responding or goes haywire. You are standing at the door trying to put in someone's surname and the PDA is going nuts entering "BBBCAS<<MASDJ" in the text box.
17) "I was in"
18) "How could you have left a card? That person is always in"
19) The attitude that any man under 60 who takes a day off sick is faking it.
20) Knowing that after your day off/a day off sick you are coming into 2 days worth of mail.
21) Farting of other posties. Yes, it is funny sometimes, but let's be honest, fundamentally it is just inconsiderate.
22) The situation where you have an entire division of 20-30 posties and you only ever hear the voices of about 3.
23) "You can't leave tracked packets." and 80% of your packets are tracked.
24) A bulk posting for every door every 2 days some weeks. Vodafone, Fibre, etc.
25) People not parking vans/cars properly in the spaces in the yard/car park
26) The fact that it is still a good job, still unique in terms of working, hours etc. but that every year it gets a little worse.

Company trying to do the volume of parcels that other, parcel specific, companies do only without the infrastructure, technology or vehicles to do so
This is spot on. This is what I’ve been saying to my manager for the last two weeks 👏🏻
Also we are getting packets in the RM network from Amazon, who clearly can't handle the Christmas workload this year either, at least where I am...and they don't have to deliver letters too.
