We need more than than that tiny "P" next to the scanned bar code to know an item needs a photo... Often the PDA is too busy saving battery and so the screen is very dark, so you can't see the "P."

A proper warning screen about a photo being needed is required after we scan the parcel... Not after we try to confirm a parcel was delivered.

Totally agree with the above. I had been on annual leave when they introduced this and as usual, no one had told me of this and I duly posted parcels only to get the request to take a photo. After a few parcels I worked out what to do, but have to say, in bad light/rain etc, it's very easy to miss the "P" (no puns intended) and I feel Royal Mail should be making it clearer when a photo is required.

I had a customer who was going to work drive round the cul de sac to find me, what option do you have bar taking the picture in the car ?

The correct procure would be to ask them to go back to their house so u can deliver the parcel. In reality safeplace and a picture of it in their car is what I would do, that assumes u know them.

It's not being a jobsworth it's just following the rules agreed with the customer. If the person receiving the parcel decides to deny receipt then RM would have to pay up, as they would have no photo proof the parcel was ever delivered.

They just need to make it give an alert like in-flight items do. A loud beep and a warning on screen.

Not strictly true because the old PDAs are being used for Xmas as well and they don't support the photo on delivery update. The customers sending have been told when one I used to deliver the parcels a photo won't be took and supposedly the are fine with it. So some will get delivered without a photo being taken

One of these days I'm going to recognise a door in those non-compliant photos. The damn 'P' needs to be changed to a beep! If this is such an important product for the company then don't half-arse the implementation.

I had 7 of these today, all pink BooHoo bags and all to houses where I've been told a safe space. I 739'ed all of them, and brought them back, as I'm not sure you can take photos of a "safe space" (especially as BooHoo tend to have the option crossed out).

I know at least 3 of them will collar me Saturday to ask why I couldn't just leave it

You should only use Safe Place on the PDA if it is either printed on the label or comes up as an in-flight instruction. I have already had photo on delivery items that have had a Safe Place on an in-flight so have used it.

RM are taking on these contracts despite not being able to fully meet them - the older style PDAs are being brought back into use but they are not capable of doing it. If it creates more complaints for RM then so much the better, so if anyone complains to you about it just direct them to customer services.

Never has a denial of receipt on my round in 9 years.

Tuesday operational performance came in at 99.21%, our target to aim for is 99% compliance. Our biggest issue at the moment is non compliant photographs. Here are a few examples and most common reasons to why the photographs are non compliant

So you bring in a new "product" and delivery requirement at the busiest time of the year.

The hardware often is not up to the job.

The FAQs do not properly answer what to do if there is a dog. We are expected to ask them to shut the dog away before they open the door, but we do this before they open the door when they can't hear us because the door is shut and the dog is barking.

In spite of this, we hit 99.21% complience which is above the target rate - but some nameless "project manager" w@nker still lectures us about not doing it right when they have never done the f***ing job themself. I am still hoping to see one of my failed efforts pop up in the pictures!

So far I’ve taken a photo of a bollard, my feet, the pavement and just a random door. The P is so small and it’s just not clear enough what items need a photo and it’s all too late when I realise and I’m at another delivery point and the pda’s on photo mode…it needs to beep several times or flash instantly so i know when a photo is necessary
