I understand where you are coming from but the customer whose photo was taken on their car, could put in a denial of receipt complaint and as the photo is not at the open door we would have to pay it, as that car could be any ones. So the correct and real thing to do is to take at the door, and explain to the customer why there is a need to do this.

On my round I'm more interested in safeguarding myself of customers that open the door half an inch to keep a big dog inside than of taking any photo of a parcel with the door open.

Where does the picture of parcel on the doorstep policy fit in with the dangerous dogs policy?

I've worked for a few companies in my three and a bit decades of working and I've never known a company that seems to actively despise their workforce like Royal Mail do.

From passive aggressive statements from the top, such as the one we're commenting on, to the in your face bullying we all witness on the shop floor all too often...it beggars belief.

I had an unusual experience yesterday - went to take a photo, the camera wouldn’t work, just a black screen with the blue camera button showing. No matter how many times I pressed the button, the camera wouldn’t take a picture. Rebooted and same problem. Tried to put it as safeplqce, again camera wouldn’t work. Obviously the customer was delighted standing there for 5 mins, as was I.

What am I meant to do ? There was no way of confirming delivery, I could only press back which lost the data. The problem is, the ‘camera is faulty’ button is on the screen after you’ve taken a photo which is yet another big fail on the testers part. So I couldn’t click camera is faulty because the faulty camera wouldn’t let me take the picture in the first place!

Never accept a customer’s assurance that the dog won’t bite.
• Rattle the gate to warn a potential dog of your presence.
• Ring the doorbell, step back and wait until the customer opens the door and request
for the dog to be closed inside
• Ask the customer to secure their dog before they open the door.
• Step well back from the doorstep to maintain a safe distance. Beware of customers
opening the door when you return to retrieve any parcels that have not been collected.
• If the customer leaves the doorstep to retrieve ID, close the door to create a barrier.
• Leave the property if you think the dog could be loose.

We have today sampled 946 photos from Thursday Friday of which 448 were Non – Compliant which is 47% of the overall sample.
There were 480 reported camera failures for Monday, have all these camera failures been reported to IT .

If these items are not allowed to be left in a safeplace why does that option remain selectable on the PDA?

**edit.. I read the procedure properly and you can leave it in safeplace if stated on item or there is an inflight request

They need to make the notification that it requires a photo taking a bit clearer, a double beep would work....perhaps I have a crap scanning a tracked technique but since they have started this I have only ever realised the item needed a photo after the customer had picked the tracked item up and shut the door, also struggle to get the PDA to do anything in a timely manner in the rain, so much for them being waterproof, the old ones were crap, the new ones arn't much better!

We need more than than that tiny "P" next to the scanned bar code to know an item needs a photo... Often the PDA is too busy saving battery and so the screen is very dark, so you can't see the "P."

A proper warning screen about a photo being needed is required after we scan the parcel... Not after we try to confirm a parcel was delivered.

I had a customer who was going to work drive round the cul de sac to find me, what option do you have bar taking the picture in the car ?

The correct procure would be to ask them to go back to their house so u can deliver the parcel. In reality safeplace and a picture of it in their car is what I would do, that assumes u know them.

When we're scanning Tracked in the MC, if anything non Tracked gets scanned we get a pop-up come up that it's out of the proper work area. You have to press OK on the screen to clear it before you can do anything else. Maybe they could do something like that
