Vans: We have 2/3 of a york 300 call rural rounds going out in big transit vans with maybe 50 packets floating around the back, struggling to turn round in tight farmyards. A managers response was ‘well on a rural round you shouldn’t really need to reverse at all.
Meanwhile we’ve got 1600 call park and loop van share rounds with 200 parcels stacked to the ceiling struggling to shut the back doors going out in small vans (doblos and the smaller Peugeot vans).
When you point it out to management and suggest swapping vans around to suit the needs and requirements of the rounds they look at you as if you’ve asked them for the meaning of life.....then after looking blankly they ask ‘did you say you can work your day off next week?’

I glanced in the back of an Amazon delivery van the other day to see how full it was. Everything was in nice neat and tidy flexible plastic containers probably sorted into areas and not flying all over the places or balanced on pouches!
Far easier if you have the right tools for the job, but at RM the tools are running the company.

I put parcels for later loops in sacks, if they’ll fit. Makes much more sense as it keeps the back of the van tidier and you’re not constantly moving things to find the parcel you need. However you have to be accurate - no good finding a tracked parcel for loop 1 in your loop 7 sack.fb1969 wrote: ↑05 Dec 2021, 19:04I glanced in the back of an Amazon delivery van the other day to see how full it was. Like you say Amazon usually have much better organisation. They have those folding basket things and it makes loads more sense. I’d love to have shelves and the likes in the back of the van though you can guarantee within a week they’d be full of crap from other drivers.

Re: Who's idea was it to allow us to deliver all these huge Amazon parcels and cancel Large vans this year?
Almost every day I see Amazon items left at doorways. These are always items that we would consider packet sized.
It is clear that Amazon prioritise the smaller packet sized items for their own delivery drivers. This strategy helps improve their efficiency by easing the pressure on their distribution network and increasing the number of deliveries their drivers can make.
This approach has the added bonus for Amazon of pushing the logistical ability of its competitor, Royal Mail, to the limit and thereby negatively impacting on the quality of service its delivery staff can provide.
I would say that Amazon management are just a little bit smarter than our lot.!!!

You wouldn't coco Subman.
Amazon still deliver to the villages. In our own defence... have you seen how long it takes some of these couriers to deliver a parcel ? I can pull up at the same time deliver a whole close (including a few tracked parcels) and the guy in the tracksuit is still messing about either trying to find the address or somewhere to stash the parcel.

yes , come back rico all is forgiven.2yearpostie wrote: ↑05 Dec 2021, 15:56blacov wrote: ↑05 Dec 2021, 15:35That is true what you say. I guess in ideal world they would split the workload so it can be easily accommodated by our existing red fleet. This is unfortunately just wishful thinking.Dorset Plodder wrote: ↑05 Dec 2021, 15:09Be careful what you wish for Blacov. If you talk to some of the Parcel Force guys they hate the Large Mercedes Sprinters, because they can't get into the smaller New Build closes, and they're a bugger to try and turn around.
I must admit since we went up to the larger partner vans it has been a bit of a problem getting into some of the tighter driveways etc. Look on the bright side they might have just fitted towbars and given us trailers!![]()
Queuee super si to come on with a video tomorrow thats hes had this great idea of giving the large stuff to pf and the small stuff pf deliver to us instead

At least he NEVER used to talk to anyone. We didn't have to watch any condescending videos, and listen to these patronising ideas for putting things right.... Things that used to work okay but were cocked up my his own incompetent managers trying to save a few pennies!
