Royal Mail crowned the most climate-friendly UK carrier

Royal Mail has been named the most sustainable, carbon-conscious carrier service in the UK, according to a new report by consumer finance company Money.co.uk.

The report “Dirty Deliveries 2021,” assessed eight of the leading UK companies by six key factors, including Trustpilot reviews, the number of hybrid or electric vehicles and number of click and collect locations.

Royal Mail is followed by Amazon, DPD and Parcelforce and was given a score of 43.5/60 due to its 90,000 ‘feet on the street’ delivery workers and expansion of 3000 more electric vans within its fleet.

The report also revealed that when making online purchases, 22 per cent of customers consider how carbon friendly the delivery will be, up 88.1 per cent from last year.

In addition, 34.25 per cent consider carbon offsetting an essential component of their final purchasing decision, with nearly 40 per cent saying they would choose an online retailer offering eco-friendly delivery options.

“With more UK shoppers considering the environmental impact of their online delivery purchases than last year, it is clear that consumers are stepping up to the challenge of making their online shopping habits more eco-friendly,” Money.co.uk personal finance expert Salman Haqqi said.

“Our research shows that more than a third of UK shoppers now consider being able to offset their carbon equally as important to them, as obtaining free delivery, when shopping online.

“And while we do still undoubtedly live in a society accustomed to almost instant delivery, these figures suggest that many of us are now beginning to consider how our day-to-day lives have a wider impact on the environment.

“Over the past 12 months, the delivery companies analysed in our research have implemented significant changes in order to become more environmentally conscious.”

It's obviously bollox, a few electric vans, and all of a sudden...what about previous performances with the mass amount of extra vans over the last few years...
