We hear and see these words on a regular basis, but when it comes to day to day issues this is not what we often experience.

One current example is hire vehicles - I have now been waiting 6 days for a replacement vehicle following a completely unblameworthy accident - how is this acceptable ? I now have a small rural office with a quarter of their fleet missing on the busiest week of the year.

Simon Thompson, we all know that if your company car was out of action, that you would not be waiting a week for a replacement - and rightly so, as it is an important requirement for the job. So why can we not provide the same level of respect, service and courtesy to our frontline employees?

The very first requirement on the DILO DOM role is accountability, but that is completely lacking in our hire vehicle process. I send a spreadsheet to an anonymous vehicle requests email address, and apart from emailing every day to get an update, that is the end of my involvement with the process - where is the transparency ?

I would love to be accountable for hiring vehicles, as I'm sure most DOM's would - the charges end up with our offices anyway, but that is not the system we have. The only answers I get to my daily emails are that they are waiting on Nexus to source a vehicle (even though Nexus claim on their website to be able to provide vehicles within hours)

I am now in the ridiculous position of having to explain to my employees and customers that Royal Mail cannot provide me with just a single hire vehicle.

So, due to this nonsense, compounded by the issue I already have with being short of peak hire vans as well, my next trust survey score will be appalling - all because of something completely out of my control.

Credit to this manager for putting their head above the parapet and saying how it is.....

Team - an update on DELIVERY VANS - I don't believe we have got this right - from Monday morning - you will be able to get what you need in a very simple way - from your local supplier - more to come....

So hi team, sorry to get you so late on a Friday evening, but I wanted to share something with you about delivery vans.
I don't think we've got this right.
I think you're short.

And I've been hearing the feedback now for too long, and it's now time to act.

So what we're going to do from Monday morning is we're going to make sure that you at a local level, in all of the delivery officers can decide exactly what you want and you can go and source what you want locally.

Now I don't know all the details of the process yet, will know that on Monday morning and the intent of the processes is it's gonna, be super quick and super easy.

But of course, with responsibility comes accountability. and I'm sure you'll understand this as well.

So this new process that will let you know on Monday morning, will apply for the next three weeks.

All of the vans must be returned by Christmas eve, because the insurance cover will not be valid after that.

Ae're going to track the cost of the hire vans as we do for the entire fleet.

And we do want you to consider what you really need and explore the options to use vans as effectively as possible. it might be double usage of the vans on the afternoon, routes, et cetera.

Aut again, vans are tools of the job you are responsible, and the delivery office managers and the local teams you are going to decide what you need.

You are going to be able to source them locally, and we're going to give you a process that's super easy.
so team that, I believe, will help ensure that we can deliver a really great Christmas for our customers.

Now will there be enough vans to source locally and will the need for them cease by the 24th?

Lets be honest. It's embarrassing. People congratulating him for what? Haven't even got the Vans for a start.

Simon you said originally that there were enough vans but they were in the wrong places and asked Dom's to request the vans they needed through Dilo. What happened to those vans?

I was told we had 500 too many - I was shown a report and a table - to prove the point - the frontline kept saying - that isn’t true we don’t have enough - I checked again - frontline were correct - we will have a retrospective in January - for now - let’s focus on our customers….

Simon, care to explain how can those at the sharp end having to endure the farce, focus on the customer today, when the tools they need to make it happen are always tomorrow and the investigation into how you got there is in way into the future.
