The main problem in RM is fairly obvious, understaffing. Years of full timers leaving and being replaced by people on part time contracts. Offices largely running on overtime and goodwill.

Somewhat inconveniently for RM the pandemic has seem masses of this goodwill come to an abrupt end all at once, showing the real state of things across the country.

Add to this the staff retention issue whereby reserves with years of experience are being passed up for duties as they are now 'part time' deliveries, leading to them searching for other employment.

Everyone has their breaking point and these past few years have been the perfect storm for thousands reaching it almost simultaneously.

Well when I made this thread I had no actual hope that the CEO would actually read it. That is fairly crazy when you think about it :Applause

Come now Simon, please consider some of the points from us soldiers on the ground. :nana

If you're on Workplace then you can obviously see the thread, I am not going to copy/paste (I miss Bob Gibson) everything and it is not selected copy/pasting to make either look 'side' good or bad.
You are very much welcome to post other views that are on there, here, we do not stifle debate or delete (CWU) comments we don't like.

DOM

An anonymous postie tars our managers as being bullies and incompetent and it’s put on your feed. Words genuinely fail me. We have a committed and competent group of operational managers who have worked their socks off over the past 18 months through this pandemic.
I certainly don’t like any comments unnecessarily slating any of our managers. It’s conquer and divide tactics, posted anonymously with no supporting evidence and it’s not acceptable.

Simon
I agree with your view - but we have to be open to everyones opinion - as I said at the top of this post -> I confess I rather like a few of the points made - some are a definite "no thank you" - which ones do you like? - please let us all know - I hope that is clear....
my experience - we need to get all points of view on the table - no point hiding them in dark corners - because robust discussion and debate is how we move forward together - I know some of the points of view I post are hard to hear - I don’t agree with all of them - and not everyone agrees with me - this is all fine and very normal - we all have a voice…..

Receptionist Production Supply Team

Some good points and some bad points.
Never mind hiding who you are. You need to step up, take ownership of your comments and help build relations to sort out your grievances. Only then can we forge and build a better environment for everyone, Staff, Managers and more importantly our customers, who pay our wages/salaries.

Another DOM

If said OPG thinks they can do better then by all means try to help, a letter saying all of RM’s failings from a personal perspective does nothing other than simply put a rift between colleagues and damages the development of the company. No more of this rubbish, if you wish to help then have break out sessions of how to adapt and change your delivery unit with your DOM/DLM and push forward change in your unit. If it’s a good change, then this can hopefully be rolled out across the nation and if it doesn’t work then so be it.

Another OPG

Could do a response with positives and negatives to every point raised. The ‘proof in the pudding’ would then be how we as a business take the negatives and positives away and react to make the workplace a fairer place for all staff (managers and opg) to work in

Another other OPG

As a postie, I can agree with the statements, but I also don't drive and do admit to doing some things differently to take the pressure off my drivers.
But seeing through the eyes of one postie isn't fair on everyone else, especially when they rule out good points. We all know what they are and if you don't have any, maybe someone could make a list.
Maybe we need to look at what triggers these issues, for example when I see managers walk through the door first thing in the morning, they are confronted by negative attitudes before they have taken off their coats.
I do think that common sense, respect and equality does need looking into though.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

The big one Simon and co is this , hugely important revisions all across the country , so what do you do , you listen to your workforce and give them some input in these revisions. What happened in reality , lets rush in these revisions asap . No communications with the gals/ guys whove done the jobs for years . Our office is a huge mess now because you never listened , which is hugely disrespectful to all of us . We have to deal with this pressure now you have put upon us , thanks .

-A weighting system where suitability for a round counts alongside seniority.
Define "suitability", and how is it measured? By who runs round and doesn't take their break and finishes quickest? By number of p739 returns (are they doorstepping them all)?
Number of rounds done, record (conduct/driving record/customer complaints which warranted coaching etc). Nothing to do with breaks and P739s.

I know this particular example is very rare but we have a guy here who has only ever done 1 round, there’s at least 5 addresses on the round he’s no longer allowed to deliver to due to complaints put in against him so even (pre COVID) if it was a farm foods leaflet and nectar card offer the van partner has to deliver them. He been seen cracking a can of beer open on his last loop on 2 occasions. Refuses to learn IPS, claims not to know how to use the camera feature on the PDA and says he doesn’t have time to learn it, and threatens to go off sick whenever coaching or conduct is mentioned. But because he’s been here longer he stays on the round.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

We have one of those. Does badly, multiple complaints (not a single Redi folder is without one, and the frame has multiple "third complaint" sheets attached to it...) Spent all of November boasting that he hasn't worked a Christmas in over 20 years because he knows how to get signed off. Signed off for a month yesterday, but due to his "seniority" he will not only keep his walk, he also gets a better pick of holiday days than most, after leaving us in the proverbial dung at the busiest time of year

Incredible, in most other industry sectors he'd have been let go!

Talk to people, face2face with NO team leader ( aka "MANAGER" ) anywhere nearby

We will tell Ü

Merry Xmas, happy New Year &

...early congrats on your 1st anniversary, hoping Ü still there next year and NOT jump the ship prematurely like your predecessors
