Managers calling you while off sick

norbet, as 'nothing has been agreed', can they do anything (in terms of conduct code) to an employee who never answers calls from RM whilst off sick ?? I have Caller ID and would consider them phoning me every morning as a pain in the proverbial, and would just ignore any such calls as unwanted harrassment. If you're sick, you're sick, and as long as you phoned-in originally, why should we put up with this hounding of people who are ill ???

Yeah , take you down CC for unauthorised absence , I've actually seen in a local agreement -"We wouldn't like to see you CC for authorised absence " , the other one I remembered was if you were on holiday if on leave , it's got to be part of your treatment .

I've seen a Asian guy taken on CC for missing a Don't give ATOS appointment , "Fact finding " interviews as there was something in The Courier about cost etc . The manager called him a f****g P*** in one of those "interviews " , he grabbed the managers hand and said what did you call me . The manager shouted out J*** did you see that ? , so the guy was suspended .

They couldn't find enough evidence and that manager laid it on too thick about being bounced off the walls , so he was reinstated . The Union reckon that manager was a BNP Member and only kept his job as PHG on the loading bay because of his dad after having someone by the throat in that Lancashire Zoo.

He wont if someone you trust and support stands against him. The rep is only as strong or as weak as the membership allows him to be.

I am off sick at the moment and I don't feel harassed by any phone calls or letters I receive. In fact , if I didn't hear from work , I would think they didn't give a toss about my health. I had to go in for a meeting this week , (my second one since being off) , and I got a letter 2 days later to go for another meeting in 2 weeks time. I don't have a problem with that ! I've been off for a while and am waiting for an MRI scan. The Doctor (who is a practising GP) from EHS who did a telephone consultation , has told me not to return to work until I've had the MRI and treatment is underway for my condition. To be honest , there are too many posties who are anti- manager/ Royal Mail/ or even doing their fair share of work and that really gets on my tits ! I'm stuck in the house , in a hell of a lot of pain and RM have been nothing but good to me ! I'm sick to death of hearing people whingeing and moaning continually about how bad everyone is being to them. I wish I could share some of my pain with the moaners who think they are being hard done by. Maybe if they were in My situation , they would appreciate the phone calls etc. I can't even get out of bed in the morning without taking a handful of (prescribed) painkillers. Even then , it takes a good couple of hours for the pain to calm down enough for me to go out. So STOP F****** MOANING about everything and get on with your work. You have no idea how lucky you are to be able to go to work !

As long as boxes are ticked and it keeps Area away ?, RM must love you , they'd have people in the office just like that for saying anything critical of RM on here .

Just throwing in my two pence worth - There are malingers and work shy posties and managers. There are hard working and dedicated managers and posties you get both types in all places of work, most of us, me included fall somewhere in between. I think the usual complaint is that some managers treat everyone exactly the same that we are all work-shy, and instead of concentrating on those who are they apply the rules rigidly and hard working honest posties fall foul of the rules, but the work shy ones who know the rules always take it to the limit.

I am happy to report that my Line Manager is one of a rare breed, he knows which posties are swinging the lead and which ones aren't and he applies the rules in a sensitive way, because of this most on my alley will do what they can to help him out and sometimes come back from sick earlier than perhaps they should.

The rule of thumb I used when I was a NCO in the forces was treat everyone the same as you would like to be treated, but above all treat them as Individuals in a team, not as a bunch of clones.
