Same for me, one year it worked really well, going back a few years now, did parcels for December and the person I worked with was extremely organised, we had to keep a tally and most days did 4 times the amount the single guys were doing so obviously double really, no we weren't trying to be seen as some sort of superheroes just got on with the job but never bothered again as couldn't be arsed with the "why are there 2 of you in a van" bollocks comments from the resident idiots.HTPostman wrote: ↑23 Nov 2021, 15:00Fully agree. It can work really well, all depends on who you’re working with. I once did this kind of shift with a really organised guy, as I drove to the house he’d have a quick glance at which neighbours had lights on or cars in the drive, so he knew which to attempt if no answer. I’d simply drive, then turn the van round while he delivered. If I was ahead, I’d keep a check on the parcels in the back, keeping them ordered. Likewise if I was delivering the parcel he’d be in the back keeping things tidy or he’d have the next parcel out walking up the street to deliver it. We were very organised, had a laugh and were productive.clashcityrocker wrote: ↑23 Nov 2021, 14:34It depends.yellowbelly wrote: ↑23 Nov 2021, 13:27What exactly is the point of 'buddying up' to deliver parcels? Paying two people to do one person's job - ludicrous! This will involve parcel deliveries in a van, where you will likely buddy up with a colleague.
If parking is an issue the driver can stop much closer to the drop and let the "buddy" deliver it.
Less fatigue and better camaraderie mean higher productivity.
I once did this with someone who loaded the van with what they thought we would manage by 6pm if we were lucky.
We finished them by 4pm and went back for another load.
I’ve also worked with some who sit in the passenger seat scrolling through Facebook then when you reach a house say ‘it’s your side mate’ or they decide it’s a good opportunity to have a 10 minute phone call with their friend about plans for Saturday night, leaving you to do all the work.
As for Simon I wonder if he’ll be on a comfy duty just doing an hour or two working from a nicely cleaned just been professionally valeted van. Or will he be doing 3 days Mail on a badly organised frame, pressured to complete by a manager working from a badly dented van with one of the doors not working....oh and it needs fuel and the regen doing too.

Point taken - it obviously works for some situations, but for my regular routes which are either rural or reasonably spacious urban streetsted_e_bear wrote: ↑23 Nov 2021, 19:01Same for me, one year it worked really well, going back a few years now, did parcels for December and the person I worked with was extremely organised, we had to keep a tally and most days did 4 times the amount the single guys were doing so obviously double really, no we weren't trying to be seen as some sort of superheroes just got on with the job but never bothered again as couldn't be arsed with the "why are there 2 of you in a van" bollocks comments from the resident idiots.HTPostman wrote: ↑23 Nov 2021, 15:00Fully agree. two people in one van would be overkill and the manager would not permit it.

They'll probably bring in a bus for Super Si. By the time they allow for his driver, PR manager, HR rep, photographer and a few more hangers on there won't be enough seats. Terry Pullinger can tag along too, sitting on the parcel shelf saying "oh yes" and nodding like the Churchill dog!

A whole duty, one which he has to walk 10 miles plus.
Is he that fit, because it looks like he has a few bottles of wine in him!
Just a PR stunt me thinks, he might do a street with a pairing with 20 cameras watching intently & Terry informing him “that’s a packet!”

Just another PR exercise for the new boss to show everyone he is 'just one us really'...happens every time a new one starts - say all the right things the workforce want to hear, appear nice and approachable, get the photo op with a postie on a round etc etc rinse and repeat.

I had to read that twice. Yes. Makes no sense. Like most of the rubbish he spouts. Maybe need one to hold the torch. Hoping he's on a s**t round with loads of pkts and mail from three days, in a crappy van that needs booking in so he has to have another even crappier van. On the duty with a partner whose never done it before oh and I hope it's freezing rain all day and the lino pressurises him to finish it all and they get back at six. Then say actually, you're doing 3 weeks not three days, and we don't know when you're day off is next week or what walk you're on tomorrow. That should give him a good impression.

He was at Willesden DO yesterday.
Interesting he wondered why the yard was newly painted...
Simon
Question: Why would we spend £ repainting the yard with spaces that are too small for our vans?
Is he like the Queen?
Morley DO was recently spruced up for his visit as well.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
