only a problem if they get stolen, common sense says don't leave in public view for schoolkids to see etc, sounds like you know what customers want and they happy so don't worry. Managers will not trawl the streets looking for amazon packets left outside terraced houses in the rain but they will discipline if one does go missing. May not be a bad thing to get letters as it reinforces your value as a postie as they realise what a good job you've done for them and whata pain it is to go to the depot to collect!!

Look at the back of a 739 at the topjockthearab wrote:In the coming few weeks our managers have said they are going to have a purge on people doorstepping parcels.
Many of my customers have came to an arrangement with me about leaving stuff in their greenhouses, sheds, backdoorsteps & even in one case a disused rabbit hutch .
So now I'm gonna have to stop this ,anyone got any idea who my customers can contact about nominating a "safe place" which would help me oot .
Before anyone has a dig I know we arent supposed to do this (but we all do)& I only do this extra service for a handfull of my long standing customers.
Cheers
AS YOU REQUESTED YOUR ITEM HAS BEEN LEFT:
In your Safeplace on your property at:

Seems a lot of palaver why don't RM promote Safe boxes on peoples property - you cant get one from Amazon.co.uk
ftp://ftp.royalmail.com/Downloads/publi ... icence.pdf - is the link (A PDF Doc) that the sending customer gets and agrees to. So there is nothing for the receiver to do unless they can specify a "Safeplace" when placing the order/getting the item sent. Our Lord and Masters Website wrote: Safe first-time delivery
If you have signed up to Safeplaceâ„¢, when a customer places an order with you online or by phone, they will be asked to nominate a 'safe place' as an alternative delivery point. This can be either a secure weather-proof area on their property, or a near neighbour. These instructions are then shown on the Safeplaceâ„¢ Packet's label, so we will know where to leave the item if the customer is not at home when delivery is attempted. We will also leave a P739 ('While you were out' card) informing them where their item has been left.

Perhaps I am being awkward but why doorstep anything? You take it back use up time booking the items in. Keeps the caller's locker busy - less excuse to cut their hours. You have to re-deliver uses up more time on your delivery - or means they have to send a van out with it. Isn't the whole point to keep work in the office not give excuses for further cuts?

BTW the CWU neither condones or encourages Door stepping in fact they strongly advise against it for any reason whatsoever. As our rep said today, if they ain't in its going back to the callers office.
IMO its the best approach unless you personally are 100% sure that 1 its safe to do and that the customer has previously agreed with it in writing, and most of all do it only when you know for an absolute certainty that there will be no come back on you.
