Policy of phoning up people when off sick

Post by Carnoustie »

Having read the thread about RM phoning people at home when off sick ( see http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/forum/vi ... 5655#95655 ), I started wondering whether this bullying tactic is now widespread in Royal Mail, or if it's only a handful of over-zealous managers that do this. They'd certainly get some advice involving sex and travel from me if phoned me up when I'm ill

Post by deadbox »

Called me once.....

When I got back , I REMOVED my number from the contact book...SCIBBLED HARD over the top of it, tip -ex 'd it out.....Never had a call since......

Keep getting asked for my home or mobile no. .....TUFF SH*T......NO DEAL !

E.U. law states that it is HARASSMENT to call a employee at home if they are sick...... ( If YOU give them your number, they can and do say that you WANT to be contacted ! )....START TOMORROW - WITHDRAW YOUR TELEPHONE NUMBER FROM THEIR LIST !

This is one bell they cant ring ! :no no

Clause in The Human Rights Act :--The Right to Privacy , goes against their own B&H policy , quell surprise. RM are only interested in ticking those boxes on those sheets as there's pressure from above . . Very Regimented style , very arrogant though they've always been autocratic and regarded themselves above the law .

They'll just say absence has improved by 18% with their methods and their policy is to "remove the barriers " and return people back to work ASAP . They use ATOS to make it "look straight " or get rid of people .

This all started in 2003 , we were told if we didn't inform RM , we'd get phone calls or get put on Unauthorised absence Cof C . All signed off by the Area Rep , but there was complaints that managers started to harass people with calls from the very onset , never mind 3 days . The b****y phone went once at 6.50pm on the first day , just ignored it , not speaking to that idiot .

I've been in the same boat recently regarding sickness, Royal Mail act as if they are the judge, jury and executioner.

Outrageous :evil/mad

I got a standard letter when I was off sick that outlines a list of procedures whilst you are on sick leave, and I quote:

When you intend returning to work you must notify your Line Manager at the earliest opportunity, at least 24hrs in advance.

No wonder people refer to them as DUMs :d'oh!
Unless they got a phone call from you about a minute after you phoned in sick, it's feckin obvious that you won't be coming in the next day because you would not have given them the required 24hrs notice. Even if you did go in next morning, you can't win as they would then threaten you with the conduct code for not adhering to the proper procedure, or even send you home if the DUM has already arranged cover for your duty. Or both.

Maybe your DOM misses you, you never know, it might be love! Think about it, makes your life hell, always having a go, changes his mind every 5 minutes, etc :nana
