Re: All colleagues should have been briefed about the new Bar Coding stamps and the need not to mark the bar code when cancelling stamps
As they've moved the cancellation zone to left, I found myself having to manually cancel a lot more traditional stamps. Would it not have made more sense to put these barcodes at the bottom of the stamp rather than the right? That way they could perhaps still be run through the SCMs? Also they wouldn't have had to move the zone to the left in the first place, if barcodes were at the bottom. Just a thought.
Maybe someone will come along and tell me why they couldn't/shouldn't have done that...

I believe that the cancellation zone on a SCM is physically fixed and can't be changed without a major rebuild of the machine. iLSMs it's probably just a quick software update. Don't know about IMPs and CFCsssdd wrote: ↑31 Oct 2021, 15:32As they've moved the cancellation zone to left, I found myself having to manually cancel a lot more traditional stamps. What I was driving at is would the cancellation zone of the SCM need to be changed if the barcode was at the bottom of the stamp?SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑31 Oct 2021, 19:37I believe that the cancellation zone on a SCM is physically fixed and can't be changed without a major rebuild of the machine. iLSMs it's probably just a quick software update. Might be down to the size of barcode required to contain whatever data it has encoded. In any case I wouldn't be surprised if most MCs don't have the staff to operate the SCMs anywayssdd wrote: ↑31 Oct 2021, 20:52What I was driving at is would the cancellation zone of the SCM need to be changed if the barcode was at the bottom of the stamp?SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑31 Oct 2021, 19:37I believe that the cancellation zone on a SCM is physically fixed and can't be changed without a major rebuild of the machine. iLSMs it's probably just a quick software update. Shouldn't matter with the big names you've mentioned as I was informed by a bigwig (who came roundmasterblaster wrote: ↑31 Oct 2021, 12:23and big companies such as John Lewis, Boots and Sarah Raven using the same label for 2 or more boxes.tractorboy2 wrote: ↑29 Oct 2021, 08:29When they start charging for EVERY underpaid item , then I might be concerned about uncancelled stamps.
to make sure the proles were being kept in line) that their stuff is billed under contract by mass weight/volume rather than individual parcels.
It's when you get a home printed click and drop label duplicate that it needs highlighting to revenue protection.

We still haven't had any brief on this.
What difference does it make if I mark the barcode once it is out on delivery?

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Wondering what the point of the stamps is exactly?
Only thing I've heard about them is this thread, since then I've spotted half a dozen or so, have attempted to scan then on delivery and just get the error beep and a message about being in the wrong work area

At the moment nothing I would imagine, but I'm wondering if eventually they'll need to be scanned at the deliveryclashcityrocker wrote: ↑15 Nov 2021, 14:51We still haven't had any brief on this.

point as RM say it's the way forward, scan, scan, scan.

At some point in the future just about anything that's not a D2D will have a barcode on ityellowbelly wrote: ↑15 Nov 2021, 18:22At the moment nothing I would imagine, but I'm wondering if eventually they'll need to be scanned at the deliveryclashcityrocker wrote: ↑15 Nov 2021, 14:51We still haven't had any brief on this.

So if it was unfranked then used by a customer again would the code scan at the mail centre show a fraudulent use of the stamp?

I'm just on auto-pilot so I'll continue to cancell the new ones, along with the old ones, I'm not wasting those micro-seconds worrying about it.Clappedoutpostie wrote: ↑15 Nov 2021, 19:30Had afew of these today, no briefing so just posted them uncancelled.

We don't scan them. The only things that get scanned in MCs are SDs and Tracked. The traffic recording gets done by scanning containers on the PDAsDorset Plodder wrote: ↑29 Nov 2021, 11:30I'm just on auto-pilot so I'll continue to cancell the new ones, along with the old ones, I'm not wasting those micro-seconds worrying about it.Clappedoutpostie wrote: ↑15 Nov 2021, 19:30Had afew of these today, no briefing so just posted them uncancelled.

Revenue Protection Transformation Manager
At this time of year, just a quick reminder to cancel stamps by selecting the correct operating mode and mail stream in Mail Centres to avoid “free” re-use in the New Year.
In manual areas a pen cancellation would be great! As always if in doubt about any mail let RP check it out for you, by using our email address RPUK@royalmail.com. Wishing you all a safe and happy Christmas from the RP Team

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
