Full time contracts
Hi
Need some advice regarding full time.
We have been told there is going to be 10 + full time contracts in our office .
According to DOM the union have agreed to give these to people who have been doing early prep within the last 2 years.
This means skipping all seniority . Can they actually do that?
There’s some of us that have been there over 10 years and have done a lot of early prep within the last 2 years but not consistent and we’re being told we won’t be given one.
Where there’s part timer that joined a year ago will be offered one? How does that work
Thanks

Re: Full time contracts
Whenever theres a full revision and re-pick they go down the list from whoever has been their the longest and work down.
Are these full-time contracts on fixed duties? Cause if they are, there may be many seniors who might be disgruntled
I don't often see our Area Manager but it might be worth contacting someone higher up.

The revision started but re pick is in the New Year.
No set duties just full time contracts , possible full time reserves ?
Either way how can they skip seniority

Re: Full time contracts
That sounds dodgy as f*ck. seniority is always king for these sort of things.

Does your union rep agree with the DOM, if so, then does his Area rep support him?

Re: Full time contracts
No
Because then its open to favouritism
And also because some people refuse to do morning OT out of the principle that it stops FT contracts being handed out in the first place.
Contact the area rep.

Re: Full time contracts
Possibly explained or heard it wrong, there is no way 'Bob' gets a duty cause he's been coming in early for it.
The 'duty' gets the hrs not the person.
This is where there are problems where peeps are doing extra, it's not the person but the duty, end of.
Seniority rules 100% unless DDA, specialist duties etc are involved.
It's all in the way forward...

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Full time contracts
According to the union there is a agreement in place if you do 6 months of early prep which is the same as full time ours , you should be offered a full time contract.
So basically you could be there 10 + Years and not to early prep in the last 6 months and get no contract
but someone who's been there 18 months and has done early prep for 6 months will be offered a full time contract before the more senior postie

Re: Full time contracts
The interpretation of the agreement is incorrect.
Whilst there is a requirement to review contracts at six monthly intervals, if they realise more hours are required in the office, then the rules of who gets those hours reverts back to seniority.
So really, the newer staff who grab all the o/t going, are less likely to obtain either a FT position should others more senior to them apply, but will also in theory lose the overtime potential as the office is then allocated the correct resources.
Basically, you're partly correct about such an agreement, but not in the assumption as to how it is implemented.
Meanwhile, in the real world, for years since the agreement was introduced, the six-month reviews may have been carried oyt, but rarely would an office see more hours being put in as a result - hence the overall issues being experienced when revisions are implemented without the correct number of staff in place, (which equates to hours available)

Re: Full time contracts
I really need to speak to someone else about this then.
The hours are definitely not being handed out by seniority as I’m getting skipped.
There’s 16 FT contracts and I was told I’m not getting one as I haven’t done early prep in the last six months.
Is there anywhere I can read the agreement ? @estelle

Stoke Agreement
Martin Walsh wrote: ↑17 Aug 2016, 16:14I do think the Agenda for Growth Agreement is somewhat misleading and needs too be seen alongside two other agreements and they are :
1 The filling of Vacancies agreement - Stoke Agreement and whether the job has enough workload too remain full time.
2. That the most senior part time person in the office has first option on being offered the opportunity to increase their contracted hours and no necessary the part time person who is working the additional hours.
Additionally the first thing to establish is what is the content of the additional hours which a part timer is working ? If it is against a duty which someone is on sick leave or annual leave than if this the case than the part timer is unlikely to be given an increase in contract as leave and sick leave is not recruited against other than standard reserves.
Equally if your office has vacancies and a part timer has been coming in to assist in prepping , IPS or working later to ensure the delivery is completed than again if Royal Mail recruit against those vacancies the question will be asked will there than be a requirement for the part time to work additional hours.
Additionally if a part time is currently covering a full time duty and has been for some time than there should have been a filling of vacancy discussion which could conclude that the full time duty is filled by the most senior part timer which will mean that the resulting part time vacancy will be need to be recurited too. Or it could result in the full time job being reduced in hours due too workload and than there will be no part time vacancy.
Than there is the part time duty holder who has too prep their own walk and than protracted their duty every day ! Providing the office is fully resourced than we should be able to offer the most senior part timer in the office this increase in hours. There is a huge problem here in that it may mean the part time duty holder who has been working additional hours for months may not only get that increase in hours they may have to come of the duty they signed for !
Than there are the rest day covers and reserve duties which are again complicated and depended on what additional hours a part timer works against !
The CWU have been successful in getting a lot of part timers made up ! However the above are what Royal Mail look at when dealing with reviews.
