Dom delivers Amazon

Post by woody38 »

Don does a series where he goes to workplaces ( available to watch on the player), today he went to the Amazon depot in Bristol, wonder if our new parcel depots they are building will be anything like this, it seemed very efficient & had robots to move & store some of the parcels, On the delivery side the vans seemed better than what we have, u can access the back of the van without leaving the front cabin, they have sleeves that have the parcels automatically sorted to the way u deliver them so no sorting through parcels it’s all done for u, the scanners have the phone number of the customer on them. So u can ring the person up if there not in via the scanner. Everything seemed great apart from one thing Amazon do not have any CSP the driver said he would come back later if not he would try again tomorrow, they do this for 3 attempts before returning it to the depot as undeliverable. Weather it was staged so it looked good for the tv program We will never now, I have heard horror stories before of people who worked for Amazon

Arrived at an address today with a parcel (in the rain), Amazon parcel getting soaked on the doorstep, recipient was
in, presented her with the RM parcel and told her about the Amazon one getting drenched. She was rightly fuming, been in all
day apparently and allegedly no ring/knock on door and no card left.

Why didn't she just check her phone, if she had then she would have surely got a message to say her parcel had been delivered? How many times a day do we have to knock/ring more than once just to get a customer to answer the door?

I can't work out how Amazon operate as they seem to have some delivery drivers just using their own private cars (probably uninsd for courier work?) but other couriers driving brand new looking vans, plus they also use the RM extensively.

Some are Full time Amazon drivers (blue electric vans) then you have sort of the sub-contracts types (white vans) then the ones who use there own cars who just do it for a bit of cash and you just use your phone pick a slot ,pick up and deliver.

Dunno, she answered the door pretty promptly to me - perhaps someone else had sent it to her so she wouldn't
get the notification, perhaps her mobile wasn't on, perhaps she's not glued to the t'interweb all day?

Anything longer than instantaneous is too long for most couriers, who will just assume the addressee isn't in and skip the whole time-consuming process of finding out. I'm not defending it, but we both know why they do it.

With Amazon if you're waiting for a delivery once the driver is within a certain number of drops you can see on a map where they currently are, how many drops before yours and an estimated time

Knock once put parcel on ground, take a photo and off they go, don't even bother to card them mostly. Seen it done. Sad thing (for us) is that most people would sooner have this approach than have to drag themselves down to their callers office and queue to pick it up.

We may think RM is a joke of a company, but in reality Amazon is way worse. The drivers aren't allowed to bring back more than a few parcels, which is mental really. It's cheaper i guess for Amazon to pay out compensation than pay the extra processing, storage and delivery time/money for returned parcels.

Simple question, who has ever seen the same Amazon driver more than once?
I've even seen the same Yodel guy many times, but never Amazon. They just quit it's that bad.

Sadly i did a few months for them a long time ago, sub contracted. 120 drops routinely, not parcels, drops! My last day was when i returned a cracked screen PDA (samsung mobile), and was told it would be £75 off my wages. I walked and never got charged thankfully as i guess by the time the sub contractor got charged i was already paid.
Also had to wait up to 1.5hrs just to collect the day's delivery, on a daily basis.
