It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

For reference...
If a customer’s footage of a colleague is uploaded online without consent and you are not happy, please email smartdoorbells@royalmail.com. We can then review the case and involve our Group Legal team where appropriate.

Also...
Key facts:

Smart doorbells start filming when a motion sensor is triggered - this can be up to 10 metres away – and not simply when you press the bell.
Footage can be recorded by the customer.
Assume that you are being recorded when you are within range of the doorbell. Please ensure that you follow our procedures and are polite at all times.
If the householder asks you to do something with their parcel, make sure you follow the business policies:
  • Only leave a parcel if it has a SAFEPLACE instruction on the label.
Don’t deliver signature products without a signature (it is the poster who has paid for the signature).
You can deliver to a suggested neighbour – they are more likely to be in and to accept the package.
If customers are unhappy with what you are able to offer then politely explain that you are following company policies to keep mail secure.

Something wrong with that article - according to the BBC he is the immediate neighbour. Look at the top photo in your article and it has highlighted the left-hand front door of those two G-plan identikit houses and thus he is indeed the immediate neighbour. Yet the image at the bottom shows him presumably in his own doorway, which is the black door, the right-hand door of the pair and not the one circled in the first image. The Ring Bell under the #87 would NOT film the 'doctor' if that's her front door. I suggest people see the BBC article as it explains things a little better and infers that he is actually the immediate neighbour, he has 4 cameras and these allegedly film and record audio in her parking space, back garden etc.

What kind of 'dcotor' is she anyway? I assume a GP would live in a higher-spec residence than a modern 2-bedder with postage stamp front garden and less privacy than a death row prison cell?

I often write my 739's out whilst staring into the camera of a Ring door bell...

then along comes another delivery driver (Hermes, Amazon...) who run over, silently doorstep their packet, take a photo, and then flooooor their great f**k off van to their next call.. then I proceed to try and squish a flimsy bit of tissue paper (739) into the crack of an awkwardly low letterbox with bristle strips and two tightly sprung storm flaps. Joy.

Absolutely agree with you. Leave it in the brown bin or under car, then when it goes missing they call RM and it’s your job on the line. Why take risk? Do the job properly and avoid all the stress when they come questioning you regarding that missing parcel.

If the customer asks you to leave it then surely they will have you on film leaving it where they said, if the video is set off by motion thay will have footage of someone stealing it...

Not necessarily, say it's around the back.
etc, shirtbuttons and some others have it spot on.
Don't cause yourself unnecessary grief.

I absolutely hate using them and always avoid pressing them. If on the rare occasion I do press it (and get through to someone) and they give an unsafe instruction (leave it on the doorstep/in the bin) I CBA and don’t have time to argue anymore, I just pretend I can’t hear them and write out a P739. I used to try the telling them it’s company policy approach but you either get someone begging or someone giving you an earful, all with that awful 3 second delay.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.
