Audit carried out today in our office and one of the guys vans found with the seatbelt plugged in behind his seat from the previous day. Told must go for an interview with the auditor this week. What could the outcome be, from previous encounters? It’s going down as gross misconduct. Thanks I’m advance

Ill be totally honest and say if it's being treated as gross misconduct then I'd fear the worst.Really hope the person just gets away with a serious warning.I know it varies from office to office area to area, but at the moment I've personally seen as many people sacked in the last year then the previous 10 before.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

The onus is clearly on proving who plugged the seatbelt in.

Re: Gross misconduct for seatbelt plugged in behind seat
Of course its incredibly silly however I dont see what grounds RM have here to conduct somebody? What if the person said "I always fasten the seatbelt in after usage as in my opinion it looks more professional" no proof or driving without a seatbelt merely an empty van with a seatbelt fastened?
However if the person in question was caught driving by a manager with it fastened in different ball game

Re: Gross misconduct for seatbelt plugged in behind seat
It's been a common practice by posties for years. Everyone knows why it is done. "Looks more pressional" aint gonna wash I'm afraid.Momo90210 wrote: ↑12 Oct 2021, 23:20Of course its incredibly silly however I dont see what grounds RM have here to conduct somebody? Are you serious? How many people does anyone know on here who gets out of their vehicle and before shutting and locking the door clicks their seat belt back in????? It definitely does not look more professional - it looks exactly what it is lol. If for example you have 15 vans at your DO, 14 are parked with no seat belt clicked in and 1 with it clicked in......even RM management could work this one out!Momo90210 wrote: ↑12 Oct 2021, 23:20Of course its incredibly silly however I dont see what grounds RM have here to conduct somebody? A check on the logbook will (or should) show who last used the vehicle and if the last recorded mileage in the logbook matches the current reading on the van odometer then they've got sufficient evidence to make life very awkward for said person.
It defies beggars belief that in the current regime where management are gunning to conduct or sack employees for anything they possible can, that numerous employees continue to cut such stupid corners to hand it on a plate to them!!!!

Re: Gross misconduct for seatbelt plugged in behind seat
If you read my post again I said "sufficient evidence to make life very awkward for said person". No I'm not a rep but I've seen enough in my years to know that, in this case an auditor from outside the office, will latch on to it like a leech - he or she has to justify their job don't forget...brownie points etc.Momo90210 wrote: ↑13 Oct 2021, 07:27are you for real? Sufficient evidence? A vehicle clipped back in? Sufficient evidence would be cctv footage or 2 managers out doing a smat and visibly seeing the person with no belt. Can tell you lot are not reps you have given the person guilty without things such as "he might have ocd and always clips it back in"
