Brave new world

Post by rhino49 »

As we leave 2007 behind, many of us will have mixed feelings about our experiences over the last 12 months. There have been challenges to our patience, courage and above all to our reputation as a reliable and responsible workforce.

The industrial action forced by Royal Mail’s intransigence was seen by many of us to be the great battle for the future of our business, but in fact remains one of many that have been and remain to be fought over the quality and longevity of one of the last great public services.

The settlement of the dispute brought about an agreement that, like treaties and conventions of old was designed to avoid future conflict and ensure peace in our time. Try telling that to the lads at Burslem who despite getting our moral and a little financial support are far from being freed from tyrannical treatment and should have their case given immediate and fair evaluation at the very highest level.

The agreement we accepted as a workforce spoke of negotiation and agreement when dealing with the many changes that face the business and its employees – this means that we all have a part to play in shaping the future from walk level upwards.

You can no longer leave your reps to do all the work and take the responsibility – they become stronger with every person that gives support and makes positive suggestions.
We are not just members of the union – we are the union and with that comes a responsibility to involve ourselves in its functions and decisions.

Just leaving the work to others will be the retrograde step that allows the management to make decisions for us (or in spite of us), and our managers must be made to realize that we have a vested interest in the success of this business and that we are the best people to consult on the changes.

It may perhaps be time to stop shouting at each other and for all involved to start listening and learning.

It is going to be a very interesting new year – I hope that for all of you it will be a happy and rewarding one.

Great post by rhino and one to take note of people.
Nice one.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Well said, rhino :Applause

And anyone who needs support and can't get hold of a union rep locally can always come on here to find out if what your manager has told you is in fact total bollox, e.g. 'Accidents on duty WILL be counted towards your attendance record' :evil/mad
