Driver Behaviour Programme Manager : "Last week, in the light fleet alone, we used over 75,000 litres of fuel when idling"
Last week, in the light fleet alone, we used over 75,000 litres of fuel when idling - This equates to over £100,000 in fuel costs.
With the fuel chaos we are experiencing across the UK at the moment the less time spent idling, the more fuel (and time) we all save.
Every Drop Counts so please ensure you always switch the engine off when not driving your vehicle and avoid prolonged periods of idling - accepting when you are stuck in traffic a small element of Idling is unavoidable.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

While they are lambasting the vans for being idle they're leaving us alone.

Much of our fleet is so old that when you turn off you don’t know whether it will start again !

Similarly, having to break off your normal delivery route at 12 o'clock to rush round and deliver your last few specials so they are not late.

I guess the transport manager has to justify his job somehow.
Up next, "make sure to refrain from stopping and starting your vehicle needlessly, it's not good for the vehicle."

Yet we have enforced lapsing where in some cases people are driving back and forward/crossing paths miles away from their delivery points to cover staff shortages and managerial incompetence.
Wait, did that not get mentioned?

Electric is the way forward if they can do a lease deal to make it worthwhile.

When I read that figure, I found it rather incredible so did a few calculations. 42,000 vans in fleet. That equates to about 1.8 litres per van per week. Idling consumption of medium diesel 0.77 l per hour (for 2l VW Jetta - nearest I could find) gives 2.32 hrs per week or 24 mins per day. That is with every van in fleet operating 6 days per week. Realistically 40 mins per van per day. That would mean every RM van driver has been idling their engine 40 mins every shift. Possible OK. What do you think?
For me, I don't move the van much between walks and I don't idle during my break (Maybe once when I got soaked and used the heater to dry off a bit) So who is doing all the idling - Rural routes?

Who's driving round with the over-sized, and are they switching their engines off at drops? It's pretty easy for managers to see individual cases of idling on Trimble, but is that being enforced?weedkiller wrote: ↑01 Oct 2021, 11:12When I read that figure, I found it rather incredible so did a few calculations. 42,000 vans in fleet.
