I don’t mean to be Mr Negativity here, but you say that you’ll try everything to get back to liking the job again. You have to face the harsh truth that that’s very unlikely to happen. The pandemic has accelerated the demand in online shopping, and people who never shopped online before - eg, “silver surfers” - have now got used to it and probably won’t go back. It’s going to be like Christmas all year round now.Sprattacus wrote: ↑19 Sep 2021, 19:30Thanks all for replies. Reassuring to hear everyone's thoughts!
Consistency is what I need and what I'm going to ask for. I know a few recommend leaving (and I get why you may have or want to) but I use to like this job and I'll try everything to get back to liking it again. Like I said I can put up with the heavy days by cutting off, what I can't put up with is working with random people who do the job differently every day or getting two Tuesdays off in a row with two weeks notice of the fact.
Will speak to first class tomorrow and then my manager in the week to see what can be done because as you've all said, it's not worth feeling this crap over work.
Cheers

Sounds like you're on a van share. Are you a reserve or is the other duty of the van share a vacant duty?Sprattacus wrote: ↑19 Sep 2021, 20:32Appreciate it but back to liking the job again for me is knowing what my day off will be, not working with a different person 5 days a week, and getting back some kind of consistency.

TBF, we've all been a reserve at some point, you've just got to knuckle down and get on with it, it won't last forever. Take it as character building, it sorts the workers out from the shirkers.

This is the classic bullshit mantra peddled that keeps the place going. Doesn't wash anymore - not with the constant double mail, massive parcel increase and constant sickness that reserves get shafted with daily. It is a new world. Back in the day maybe, now it is too much.claretandblue wrote: ↑20 Sep 2021, 06:11TBF, we've all been a reserve at some point, you've just got to knuckle down and get on with it, it won't last forever. Everyone who works in a DO will have started off as a reserve. Just be glad that none of us are on zero-hours contractsJahpostie wrote: ↑20 Sep 2021, 07:20This is the classic bullshit mantra peddled that keeps the place going. Re: Work-Life Balance
I think the point he's trying to make is:
There's a Big Difference to getting messed about when you have a Regular Duty, with a Designated Day Off and ..... being a "Floater", whose just being pushed from pillar to post covering whatever duty the DOM hasn't sorted, with No Regular Day Off (even worse if it's a Van Share with different people).
I think many of us forget how being a "Reserve/Floater" feels, with the constant stress over prepping and delivering different Duties. If you've been Lucky enough to have a Regular Duty throughout this shitshower I'd call that a bonus (it's the ONLY Bonus you're likely to get in this Business).

My original point was that being a floater doesn't last forever, we've all been there.Dorset Plodder wrote: ↑22 Sep 2021, 19:54I think the point he's trying to make is:

Re: Work-Life Balance
Yes you've all been there, but you haven't all been there during the last 18 months, probably the worst to be a reserve in RM history.
