They'll definitely be saving pension contributions on that hour though.
The cut from 38 to 37 hours for full timers doesn't mean we'll get an hours less pay, we'll be getting the same! So it doesn't mean RM will save on pension contributions either.

Space Phoenix- as someone that obviously works in a MC, can you shed light on why all of a sudden our sequenced trays ( both runs), are coming mixed up?
Some walks have been changed and I get that unless it gets input into the machine it will come as before and therefore a new walk will be mixed until it gets righted, but even walks that haven't been touched are coming mixed.
Bloody nightmare if you happen to be throwing a walk in you're not familiar with.

Our second tray is coming in unsequenced too, glad to see it's not just us.

All this is doing is increasing pressure further on the work force. The ability to cut hours slightly because of lack of work just isn't there. They are still in denial at local level, and at a higher level blissfully unaware of the local issues as there is zero communication going on either through the union or management about shop floor reality. Are we being railroaded down a dead end on the basis of 'this has to work or the company can't survive'?

I don't see how we can ever win a strategy against the likes of Yodel, Hermes, when we are competing against an employer who doesn't actually have many employees i.e. sick pay, vehicles to run, a pension scheme, holiday pay. In trying to do so they are driving staff to come in early once again, not take their breaks, not claim pay rightfully earned etc. A bully's playground.

The SWW starts next week in our office...and it’s a joke. Out of the 6 working days we have *5* different start times! We won’t know if we’re coming or going, late/early/on time...when I wake up in the morning it will take me 10 mins to work out if I’ve overslept or not!

Last year we did make a net profit, a time where we had excessive numbers off sick. I think RM need to work out what they want. Do we want to be Yodel, or DPD? These half baked revisions just allow reoccurring issues to stay, harming our quality of service. Us running about only harms the company's rep due to mistakes and corner cutting. And yet as you say, managers are encouraging it.

How is all this worked out long term (by long term, I mean eventually going down to 35hr week)?
Do we lose three hours pay ie 38 down to 35 or does it stay the same but no future pay rises?
Also, are PT hours (30hr and three day weeker’s) being reduced or staying the same but with a pay rise to make it fairer?

We decided its flawed so flipped round, Had the start times set at the same time every day but altered the finish times, luckily we only have two types of contract in our office.

Hicksville you don't/won't lose 3 hours pay. You'll lose 3 hours work, but your pay will remain the same for 35hrs as it is for 38hrs, which is why the hourly pay rate will increase.

Everyone gets the same basic hourly pay (save London waiting, probationary periods) and will continue to get the same hourly pay.
When reduction in hours happens, full timers will get the same basic take home pay for the new 37hrs FT positions , hence the hourly rate will go up. Accordingly the new hourly rate will of course apply to Part timers as well, but because their working week will stay at the same hours (at least it has done previously) this will work out as a 'de facto' pay rise for PTers as their take home pay will increase. If FTers who have no problem with working 38 hours a week at the moment, can manage to find an hour of overtime a week when the official SWW is imposed to 37hrs, then their take home pay will increase also, because then like the PTers their total hours for the week will not have changed (37 plus 1 hour of OT=38) while the hourly rate has as explained above.(I don't imagine it will be a struggle to find 1 hour of OT over the course of a week).

Arguably, the correct thing to do would be to reduce PTers hours proportionally to reflect the reduction in hours the FTers are benefitting from/subjected to. That way not only would FTers and PTers receive the same hourly pay, but also the basic take home pay from both structures would remain the same after the SWW are introduced.

If this post hasn't bored you enough, I am going to a start an individual thread on the matter.

regards.

Thanks for the reply :thumbup I thought it would be something like that.
I was only asking, as nobody at our office seems to know what’s happening, so I thought I’d condense people’s questions into one post.
The only way we find anything out is by me and a couple of others reading these threads.
Thanks again.

You might lose time from tea and lunch breaks, depending on the length of attendances each day after the time is taken off (probably off the start of the shifts)
