The people taking the vans home up here are the ones who will work 90% of their rest days, they leave the van before they go on holiday or have a Saturday off and get a mate to run them home, usually in another RM van.

Also what if the van gets stolen off your driveway? Would you really want that bother?Marshamp11 wrote: ↑16 Sep 2021, 18:53Wouldn't take one home even if was offered. I wouldn't want to be in a position where I may feel I owe the company something. I will pay for my own way to work and back thank you.

Shouldn't be your problem if the retention is authorised (and get it in writing) by manager - if not authorisedrambo1 wrote: ↑16 Sep 2021, 20:26Also what if the van gets stolen off your driveway? Wonder if they are aware and if management are aware of the HMRC benefit in kind taxation liability?
Their tax codes should reflect this.
I would be worried if management at any level in the business was not aware or turn a blind eye?
Perhaps if they are ignorant of this fact or claim they are, the position may have to change if HMRC became aware of it.
Boasting how one saves hundreds of pounds would be an interest to HMRC.

As well as the insurance implications.
Accident of any sort whilst not on "active duty" for want of a better term, are Royal Mail , driver covered?
Perhaps the more qualified in the business should clarify this to all offices.
I would leave the van at work.
Think on.

Assuming the driver is just travelling to and from work then they will be covered by RM's motor insurance, likewise they won't have any tax liabilities.TOWER1 wrote: ↑19 Sep 2021, 13:04As well as the insurance implications.

It does seem to be one of the many things in RM that are open to interpretation.
We used to have people taking vans home years ago, then it was stopped citing financial reasons. We now have even more vans than ever before, parking them on the street etc and yet it is not allowed back, save for 1 or 2 people, but that's a total guess.

I'd be surprised if any car thieves would steal a Royal Mail van.rambo1 wrote: ↑16 Sep 2021, 20:26Also what if the van gets stolen off your driveway? They'd be walking past the parked van at night, stop and take a look at it, then say, "Naah, what a piece of junk. We'd be crazy to steal that pile of trash. LOL!"

Why would anyone want to take a van home and be reminded of work everytime they looked outside? The job is depressing enough without taking your work home. Cant wait to get out. Nearly 40 years and shouldn’t be feeling like this

I would be worried in case shape shifting lizards took over the van and attempted to convert it into a rocket to take them back to their home planet.
How are you going to explain that in the morning?
And what would Trimble register?

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Trimble would communicate in a rapid succession of bleeps to indicate that it's happy it's off to a better life, where it can bleep freely and without discrimination.clashcityrocker wrote: ↑22 Sep 2021, 15:55I would be worried in case shape shifting lizards took over the van and attempted to convert it into a rocket to take them back to their home planet.
