changes to f8 rules

Post by evilc »

Have you found since the change to f8 rules that your keystrokes have fallen, amongst some of our colleagues it is down by as much as 1000, but according to the guy who brought it in there is no difference he must be being told the wrong figures.

We were told by Andy Dixon (the guy who introduced it) that our stats would fall but be back to where they were in one week!!!!!!! We've only been doing it for about two weeks but our stats are still way down! Our team average is down by at least 500 KPH. Don't know about you but I hate the machine print rule!!!

I thought the idea was to send less mail to f8, my stats say that I now send at least 55% to f8.

Theres probably about 10% of lates that would strike, I think earlies and nights have better rates of members who would strike.

A tall bloke who rode some super charged moped like a nutter. Used to key with him at Bristol Mail Centre. He used to sit with some bloke who made a chicken noise almost every 15 minutes to wind up the manager, very loud = 15 times a day, every day for about 4 months.

...ho ho! We've got one in our delivery office, only he says, "Green light! Green light!" in a high-pitched voice. It's bloody annoying, especially when the green light has definitely not been switched on by the managers.

Don't worry about it - its one of the Dark Arts that MDeC (Keying Posties) use when they process mail that the machines can't read. Means nothing to us humble footsore delivery posties, but I am sure one of the finger sore keyers will tell us.

changes to f8 rules

Post by dellman »

Hi all....great to have RMC back on the air....

In a nutshell when an MDEC keyer presses the F8 button....the mail piece is sent to ROI (that stands for Region Of Interest)....and either the same keyer or another keyer will have the same image presented to them in a non keying mode (ROI)...for them to draw a box around the correct address (basically the machine needs to be told where to look to find the address...so it might have a chance of sorting it itself)....if the machine still cannot resolve the image....then it is up to the MDEC keyer to resolve it in the keying mode......The F8 rules govern just what images are allowed to be sent to ROI (when to press the F8 button or not)....it does get more complicated ....so I won't elaborate any further....all I will say is that since the rules were changed yet again last october it has caused quite some problems....

Well, that sort-of explains it. Thanks. You would wonder why something so simple should become so complicated: I guess it's all down to the types of letters and parcels that come through the pipeline, where they actually need to go to first and also, where they originally came from... :cuppa
