The sad thing is that this attitude at the top will eventually filter down and the customers will get an even worse service.

Your boss is clearly guilty of willful delay of the mail, so something needs to be done.

Seems your gaffer is using the 'logic' that since those parcels are already late, their recipients are going to p!ssed off anyway, so it's not going to make a difference to their anger if the parcels turn up VERY late.
I'll remember his theory next time I over-sleep. May as well stroll in 2hrs late than arrive knackered and only 10mins late

We had the opposite in our office,were told to lapse a rural walk and make sure the parcels got delivered-what a feckin sham!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Clearly it looks as if the vast increase of online ordering of goods has well and truly caught Royal Mail on the hop.

How could the online market catch RM on the hop for gods sake. This is THE business we are in, we are a delivery service. RM should look at the trend of online ordering and come up with a strategy for XMAS delivery.
F**K me all I delivered over the summer was broadband router after broadband router.

I kept telling the managers, watch out for XMAS, it going to be massive on the packets. There are more and more people going online. Bollocks to that get your d2d'r done and stop moaning.

Trouble is, the managers only see whats in front of them that day, no more no less. Very poor management, and it starts right at the top.

Online shopping is here to stay and the sooner RM managemet stop looking to cut staff and money for the sake of their bonuses the better. We are a public service run by the worst and greediest of modern management.

I think this attitude of dont give a rats from managers is indemic,our office played down christmas eve and the mail was hideing somewhere, the fantastic hell leader of our DO cut so many hours so he gets a good bonus that it was embarrassing,he and his so called managemet team came in and buggered of as soon as the staff had left and told us before they switched the lights off it was job and knock before leaving skid marks on the way out.
The callers office has so much stuffed in it and so many cock ups this christmas that i really think that the managment should be taken outside and flogged for thier dont give a toss attitude the customers are the ones to suffer and we are left to take the crap from the customers out on the streets.

lol we got 35 yorks of packets in for xmas eve!! not a hope of delivering them all

we returned after our xmas days of to find we have 9 people on holiday/leau days?????
and 6/7 off sick

walks are failing,2 firms duties never went out yesterday or today!!
we are actually falling behind more on the packets.
we have a mail mountain and are cutting every day as we have few bodies on the primary.

2 mangers were out on delivery today to try and get a walk out.

I'm glad its not just our office, we coped with the pkts ok.

But we have been s**t on from a great height this week, we are approx 10% short on staff, we have a load off sick apparently, and we have shedloads of mailsort, so we have all been called round to finish sorting every day, as well as every day over Christmas, it's been the most badly organized Christmas and New Year I've known for a number of years.

We've also had the flexibility thing start up, anyone coming back early was sent out on one of the rounds they are trying to cover, of course a lot of the early people back were people who broke the strike, and they are moaning, we just say 'well, what goes around, comes around'. They thought it was brilliant when they had stacks of docket and free cakes and pizza's :)

I reckon we are in for a s**t 2008, and we haven't got that far yet :)

what a day.no staff again.
we sorted a grand total of 0 packets today. thats right not one packet sorted or delivered!!
no staff and only letters/flats sorted.
some walks were streamed with stamped and dated only. im sure some didnt go out

Its nice to know that we are all in the same boat ive worked for over 20 years in this job and i can quiet honestly say ive never in all my born days seen such a shambles possibly the worst year ive ever done in the office could'nt arrange a pee up in a pub,i find it embarrassing working in the place.
The managers have been patting themselves on the back for a job well done when we got back today not a manager in the place again its a shame we dont get as many early days as the managers do and lets face it we're the ones that do all the donkey work.
