Starting the year with a bang, James Bond is just one of the stars of Royal Mailâ€™s 2008 Special Stamp programme unveiled today (Friday 28th December).

To mark the centenary of the birth of Bond creator Ian Fleming, six extra-long stamps will be issued on 8th January featuring different editions of six of his most famous novels.

The two 1st Class stamps feature Flemingâ€™s first novel Casino Royale (1953) and Dr No, the first novel of the Bond series to be filmed. Fleming himself was responsible for the design of the Casino Royale & From Russia With Love covers.

The 54p stamps reveal the covers of Goldfinger and Diamonds are Forever, while the final 78p pairing features For Your Eyes Only and From Russia with Love.

In February, Royal Mail pays tribute to manâ€™s best friend with six stamps showing working dogs in action. This is the first time a set of special stamps has been devoted entirely to these highly trained dogs. The issue also celebrates two important events; 2008 is the Year of the Assistance Dog, and also marks 100 years since the first British police dogs walked their beat at Hull Docks.

The life and times of British monarchs are celebrated in the Houses of Lancaster and York issue at the end of February. This is the first in the â€˜Kings and Queensâ€™ series that will see portraits of every monarch since 1399 to the present day featured on stamps.

Other stamp issues to look forward to in 2008 include: Rescue at Sea - celebrating the life-saving work of the RNLI and coastguard, the captivating world of Endangered Insects, a tribute to UK Cathedrals on St Pauls 300th anniversary, a celebration of the cult Classic Carry On and Hammer Horror Films, breathtaking Airshows, inspirational Olympic Games, Women of Distinction - marking the progress of Womenâ€™s rights, RAF Uniforms and the Lest We Forget commemoration of the end of the First World War.

I have spent some time there and the scenery is spectacular in places. The driver from the Airport up to the Giants causeway is a must, although the causeway is a bit of a let down. Also so long as you know someone the murals are worth checking out from both sides.

I'd celebrate the road racing....maybe a Pic of Joey's Bar in Ballymoney.

I think the first pic- where else but NI can you find a full race prepped TT bike hanging from the ceiling of the landlord that raced it?
