It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: 1.5% of our offices are responsible for 25% of our delivery failures!
Unfortunately therein lies the problem....
Namely there are Lies, Dam Lies and then Statistics
In my experience failures whether they be management failures or system failures, very very rarely have a single causation. (just to recap im am outsider looking in, so please dont shoot!)
Clearly the bean counters that produce the stats dont have all the information and whilst senior management like consice reports, graphs and stats, how is anything going to improve if a thorough investigation is not undertaken to understand what the causation factors are and actually how many of those identified are within the direct these 1.5% of so called poorly performing DO's? Its easy to apportion blame
Surely there are QA systems in RM that drive the appropriate corrective actions to improve the system ? Is there not a project team somewhere within RM that are responsible for carrying out detailed and systematic reviews in order that pinch points are highlighted and that all DO's and parts of the business can develop specicfic local action plans to improve as part of the overall journey to 2024?

Probably, but it is easier and quicker to just blame employees (including local management), and brand them as lazy and intransigent.Norfolk 'N' Chance wrote: ↑27 Aug 2021, 10:45

That is indeed a real shame and so short sighted. Surely the directors and senior managers have been on the management courses ti get the MBA etc and learnt about the tools you need to use to use to foster success? Blaming staff achieves nothing. If the front like staff fail then management fails. Clearly there is a desperate need to change the overall culture. If the culture doesnt support improvement then the best mission statements and actions plans dont have a snowballs chance in hell of delivering and tangible improvements.
I myself worked in a large nationalised organisation that was then privatised. So i have first hand experience of living through dark times and being demoralised. Much of what I have read on hear resonates with me and it seems like all large organisations do suffer from long term institionalisation of its workforce. It probably wasnt until after about 20 years post privatisation when we were on our third or fourth foreign owner that things started to improve, the key turnaround was frontline worker involvement. The people doing the work, in the majority of cases are best placed at defining the solutions that will work.
I was on the understanding that the RM had its own training centers and had really good courses with structured development for those that wanted to progress into management? - It seems the more i delve into topics on here, the more shambolic a picture it paints of RM as a whole.
As I say im just an outsider desperate for work and yes perhaps I am spending too long on here...lol

Another way to look at it;
98.5% of our offices are probably responsible for 75% of delivery failures.
because as we all know, all offices are failing, it's just a difference of opinion between management and the workers, what failure actually means.

It's where they level up all walks to make the workload equal for all.............in theory...........in practice it's too much like hard work for them so they just make all full timers start 15 mins later for four days of the week to implement the shorter working week.......and see how it goes.

or to put it another way 1.5% of managers are reporting honest totals while the other 98.5% are massaging the figures as they're worried about their jobs

How are they measuring these failures?
Is he simply talking about Tracked?

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

If the 1.5% is true, won't take more than a day to find the pattern then Simon?
The offices near me in a 10mile radius are all regularly failing according staff that have been about or transferred. So i smell BS on the figures.

Re: 1.5% of our offices are responsible for 25% of our delivery failures!
I'd be surprised if anybody is counting walks not going out, if they were then management wouldn't be concentrating so much on getting the the "premium" Tracked items all delivered on the day they are scanned for delivery? Perhaps the 1.5% failing are just treating all their customers fairly not concentrate on the "premium" deliveries?
If the figures are correct then why doesn't the RM send in a specialist team to work out what's causing the issue, poor management, poorly trained staff, understaffing/too heavy a workload etc, so the issues can, hopefully, be addressed?

Re: 1.5% of our offices are responsible for 25% of our delivery failures!
It is quite common for less than half our 'vanshares' to be fully covered, often it's parcels only and they move people around to limit how long letters can build on a frame, so on paper our office could 'clear' everyday depending on what exactly gets reported which to me is the real issue with these claims.
