Simon Thompson : at times, even on the same issue in the same office, I get very different views - perhaps that is human nature - but sometimes the different views can be extremely different.. ..
Sometimes people will tell you what they think you want to hear Si and sometimes they'll tell you the truth, that's human nature.

He's supposed to be an educated man FFS. :cuppa

Sorry but it's not the posties job to clear the office, it's the managers. If they have the man hours on the day to clear the office 'GREAT'. But any manager will run into problems people phoning in sick, a van breaking down, bulk call days (council tax), traffic jams. I could go on but no day is going to be perfect and it looks like Nick is stuck on a computer all day thinking all the offices up and down the country can clear. I think he's lost touch with reality and engagement with the people that do the job day in day out.

If they don't sort out all the vacant duties and lack of staff in my depot over the next couple of months it will be a total fuk-up by Royal Mail moving into the busiest time of the year.

I will clear the office when Nick comes and shows me the way. I will be right behind him for every minute of those 22 hours needed.

Unfortunately this is not possible as allegedly managers have been briefed that under no circumstances are they to personally deliver mail.

Apparently clearing the whole office is not their job it's ours.
LOL sounds about right. Managers asking newbies if they can do owt extra, while they sit around drinking tea until they shove off home nice and early. If we're that fussed as a company to clear offices, linos should be out too.

Thanks Nick. Before we crack on with that, can we just briefly run over the maths. We have 7 staff left (excluding those on A/L) and 22 duties to cover, no covid related absences. More vacancies than staff. The vast majority of those duties are 8 hour duties. 7 into 22 is just over 3 full duties per postman per day. That would take slightly over 24 hours per postman per day to clear the office. Perhaps you could ask Ofcom or other relevant regulator for some sort of working hours waiver, and then convene a global symposium on extending the universally agreed earth day beyond 24 hours. If you show us it can be done Nick we'll come give you a hand later. :thumbup Patronizing ****.

Yes Nick, I can help clear the whole of our office, if you can get your managers to:

Fill vacant duties.

Have additional resources for absences instead of being dependent wholly on O/T.

Ensure contracts reflect the actual hours staff work and help improve morale.

Have a real revision in the office, not this pantomime of a revision process that's going on at the moment with the SWW.

Pay overtime and stop nit picking about two minutes here or two minutes there when colleagues go out of there way to help. Remember Nick, that it's not really overtime it's just additional hours.

Stop pushing back the start times, the later we start in delivery the less likely it is that we will be available to help do overtime and clear frames (but I suppose you already knew that).

Review the special delivery times as the 1 o'clock and 9am times makes clearing a duty impossible.

Hope you find this useful Nick.

P.S. Christmas is on the 25th December this year.

We've had the briefing now about what is expected of US come the start of September. Why aren't the union pressing RM to keep up their end of the bargain?

Why not apart from rural areas send a van, maybe 2 if needed out with all the SDs early on, then no need for any walk to break off for an SD

We don't have the resources to send anyone out with the 9am specials, let alone 1pm's, due to being cut to the bone.

'Has anyone thought of asking the staff to do even more?'

I'm probably not the first person to think of this - I presume some ancient philosopher remarked on this and perhaps even coined a name for it: if you believe you've come up with a really simple answer to a problem that shockingly no-one else has thought of before, you probably don't understand the situation at all.

Sounds about right. I wish these w*****s would actually try and do this job for a day instead of coming up with this BS! They're as bad as politicians, the business is going down the drain and they just keep spouting impressive sounding soundbites to cover their asses! :arrrghhh

I wonder how many of them will be in work tomorrow? I bet they'll all be on the Golf Course TWATS! :cuppa
