Bring My Label

We have begun trials of Bring My Label – a service that aims to make our Parcel Collect service more accessible to our customers.

Launched in October 2020, Parcel Collect lets customers arrange parcel collections from their very own doorstep.

However, the service can currently only be used by customers who are able to print postage labels at home.

The Bring My Label trial will see Royal Mail supplying and delivering printed postage labels to customers in areas covered by the trial who request that option when booking a collection.

The trial begins today (Monday 2 August), with four delivery offices taking part – Bath, Cheltenham, Doncaster and Newton Mearns.

For domestic parcels only, the trial has been set up in consultation with the CWU and is scheduled to run until the end of January 2022.

Customers who have used the service will be invited to give feedback on it. Royal Mail colleagues participating in the trial will be asked for their opinions and suggestions as to how it is working and what improvements or adjustments could be made.

Chief commercial officer, Nick Landon, said: 'Since we launched Parcel Collect, the service has been incredibly popular with our customers.

‘This new trial aims to make the service even more convenient. Parcel Collect saves customers time out of their busy days, as well as the inconvenience of having to leave the comfort of their home to queue to drop off a parcel to post.

‘Parcel Collect is part of our commitment to continuously make our services more convenient as we re-invent the way we deliver to and from our customers.’

Watch out for more on the Bring My Label trial coming soon on RMtv.

In all fairness its a good idea had many occasions where people have just given me a box without a label and got told by whoever we would bring one.

You think you are joking but I’m sure I read somewhere that they are considering an option of collecting items completely unpackaged.

Its evolution. i believe its something that will become standard. Also puts another nail in the post offices coffin.

Its definitely not something I want as a postie but as a consumer i'd use.

The usual stuff RM/CWU will spew....protects jobs, fighting off competition etc. But will time be allocated for it?

I wouldn't. Much easier to drop it off at a post office and carry on with my day than sitting in waiting for it to be collected. It’s hardly been popular even when RM were doing it for free. They are still lined up out the door in the Post Offices I collect from.

Currently collections are limited to 5 items per address and 5 collection points per delivery. To grow the volumes Royal Mail is seeking to advertise to customers a removal of the threshold.

We have been in discussions with Royal Mail in relation to the attached Joint Statement, which has been endorsed by the Postal Executive, which ensures safeguards are in place that deal with the challenges of raising the current cap, from the current limit of 25 items to 50 items per delivery point. This is due to take place from the 23rd August onwards.

In line with the existing guidelines and to reaffirm that it is the responsibility of Delivery Office Managers to check parcel collect orders, ensure that this workload is suitable for each delivery, make alternative arrangements where necessary to redistribute the workload via locally agreed arrangements and to the existing Standard Operating Procedure.

Following the deployment of this change targeted for 23rd August 2021 both parties will continue to monitor and review the volumes with the data being shared Nationally on a weekly basis in order to resolve any operational issues and the impact which may emanate from this change.

Although the cap will be increased to 50 items per delivery point, this will not be an advertised feature from Royal Mail, as they are currently running an advertising campaign in attempt to increase take up of the product.

Actually a good idea to increase limits a bit in my view. Had someone running their own business from home on a round I do regularly so I deliver a couple of packets whilst simultaneously picking up between 1 and 5, it just didn't make sense that whilst I'm already there I couldn't pick up the 6th or 7th parcel they had, they had to wait till the next day. My biggest issue with collections is that if they are ordered one by one, it takes ages to scan them because I have to match the codes up and submit each one individually, whereas when they order them at the same time I can just scan all them in one hit and then hit submit. Need to look at that really if we are taking higher volumes.
