If you KNOW you'll have access after 10am, it's not no access is it... and it's just not doing your job properly either. If the firm opened after you're due to finish with no available delivery point, that would be no access. I would be putting in complaints too if my mail didn't arrive! Not a good service that would be, would it? Best thing to do is ask them what to do with their mail if closed, and suggest an external box (we have one such case where a shop next to the Chinese takeaway takes the takeaways mail for example). Last thing you want is a wilful delay charge, and it would be hard to argue against it when you still have a 3 hour window in which to deliver it in. If you don't have time, you ask the manager what they want you to take, we don't get to choose what mail fails, let them take full accountability for any issues or complaints then.2yearpostie wrote: ↑05 Aug 2021, 17:10Why cant you do no access if they have no letterbox and they arent open, Thats the very definition of no access ( to delivery point)POSTMAN wrote: ↑05 Aug 2021, 17:05Don't be too stroppy about it, there are hundreds of walks where businesses are not open when you get there with no letter box.Ciderboy1957 wrote: ↑05 Aug 2021, 14:32Fair enough IF u have the time.Up to firm to provide a delivery point ie letter boxBlaine wrote: ↑05 Aug 2021, 13:17Just deliver it after 10am? If you know about it, you should be planning around it, if you don't and it's a one off occurrence, that's different. I had the exact same issue with a couple of firms on a firm's walk I did that didn't open till 10am, one had no staff in, another a large locked gate, so I just do that entire part of the walk later in the day to make sure it's delivered.
You can't 'endorse no access' for that reason.
Been there, done it (eventually) got the t-shirt...

Thats because managers are OK at bullying people in the office but haven't got the bo££ocks to front someone on the outside.

OP has stated not open to 10am OR AFTER.Ciderboy1957 wrote: ↑05 Aug 2021, 12:31Firm complaining no mail being delivered , not open to 10am or after , no letter box etc .
Endorsed no access.
They complained , manager says double back and deliver as PDA actuals say you have time .
Any thoughts
Ps Asked for breakdown of PDA actuals, still awaiting
So why the fluff should they get treated differently to every other customer that does bother to supply a DP?
BUT, if the doylem manager has told him to go back with it, go back with it every day.
And book overtime for his trouble.

I'm with Dexy here.I'm on firms and I don't think it's right that anyone who hasn't got a delivery point should get special treatment.Dexydog wrote: ↑05 Aug 2021, 18:16OP has stated not open to 10am OR AFTER.Ciderboy1957 wrote: ↑05 Aug 2021, 12:31Firm complaining no mail being delivered , not open to 10am or after , no letter box etc .

Re: Firm not open until 10am
If your manager says that your PDA actuals say you have spare time to go back to the firm with their mail, just do it. Less lapsing? I know what I would go for! If the manager wants you to be less productive by going back, go with it lol.

Not everybody works 9-5.
Can't believe we're having this conversation after 500 odd years of us.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I always thought if a property did not have letter box then legally you were not allowed to go on it a letter box is an invitation to do so.

Re: Firm not open until 10am
Nah, trespass is a civil matter, not a legal one, and nothing to do with letterboxes. What you may have heard is implied right of access, meaning it is not trespass to enter private property for a particular purpose, for example you can enter a shop until you are told to leave. Technically, a member of the public is legally allowed to enter a Royal Mail site, and whilst its not implied right of access the police cannot forcefully remove them unless a crime is committed or it becomes aggravated trespass (the person is stopping staff carrying out their jobs). Royal Mail would have to take said trespasser to court if they wanted to do anything and it keeps happening. Big red signs warn 99% of people off, but we still occasionally get the odd person walk under the barriers asking where their parcel is30+YEARMAN wrote: ↑06 Aug 2021, 20:26I always thought if a property did not have letter box then legally you were not allowed to go on it a letter box is an invitation to do so.![]()

Is it an official address?

Re: Firm not open until 10am
I would imagine us delivering to a building site office because someone has sent something to a building site office. If the street/postcode is on there, and there's a building site with an office (or better: a box to put mail in), then what's the issue?NewPostieUK wrote: ↑22 Sep 2021, 14:36

How do we postpersons determine whether an address is official or not? Do we start emailing the council about every strangely addressed letter for somewhere on our walk, that we probably can determine with a smidge of thought, to verify it's official before we wrap up?
