Re: Dejection after nearly 33 years
I know how you feel was signed off a couple of weeks ago with stress and anxiety partly due to work so at this present time I can’t deal with the pressure of poor management. The only thing they are interested in is getting me back in ASAP it’s the first time I’ve been signed of in over 20 years with the company. The DOM basically demanded I come in for a face to face meeting the day after I sent in my note even though that don’t go with so called company policy. Poor management from the top to the floor is really ruining this company.

With That ammount of New Builds you'd think it would give the DOM a chance to argue for an extra Postie? Surely they can't just expect you to farm out four new estates onto existing duties? Unless you're ALL finishing well under time.Cedar_Room wrote: ↑26 Jul 2021, 20:07
We have four new brand new estates that are currently not assigned to any duty,so expect sparks to fly if justice is done…
Take that thinking to it's Logical Conclusion: Royal Mail will never increase their staffing levels just keep putting every new house that's built onto the every shrinking ammout of Posties.

Higher up are probably looking at the total amount of time from where staff arrive back early from their walks. If that total is more than a walks worth then they probably won't authorise another walk being addedDorset Plodder wrote: ↑27 Jul 2021, 10:09With That ammount of New Builds you'd think it would give the DOM a chance to argue for an extra Postie? I'm sure that's their way of thinking SP. I've become aware over the years that there are two halves to the way this Company is run. There's the computerised side with spreadsheets & traffic figures and then there's the practical side of the job, actually done by people!SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑27 Jul 2021, 10:53

In your example I'm sure the spreadsheets may well show that there's some time available, because some OPGs may well be finishing early. And "On Paper" there may well be enough time "Spare" in a large DO of 100 staff. But 10 mins here and 20 minutes there doesn't add up to a New Build Estate's worth of Delivery, certainly not in a smaller DO, and if it did it would take a Full Revision, and a lot of changes to make it work. You of all people should know the problems associated with Split Post Codes!
In the Real World this company doesn't run like a precision swiss watch, it's more like The African Queen, needing constant chopping and changing just to make it work.

Re: Dejection after nearly 33 years
Line managers have a lot more paperwork now than 10 years ago. You see them each hour counting all the yorks/sleeves/boxes of work to hand and they have to account for all the hours they use. If you go over to a section and they've not got the hours to use, you get turned awayDorset Plodder wrote: ↑27 Jul 2021, 11:50I'm sure that's their way of thinking SP. Re: Dejection after nearly 33 years
I'm not a manager (a part time OPG)
But
I work alongside managers a lot of the time and I know that in their case morale isn't high. Most want to leave.
The VR for managers has in some areas been botched and managers in my office have to cover more work areas and manage more people with less support.
I myself am frustrated as the business does not communicate both on local and national levels - From what I've read the CEO does see this problem but from my perspective things have not improved.
I'd say my main gripe is that the numbers people don't understand people and don't acknowledge good performance - just saying thanks would help.

Yep absolutely I'm on both sides doing spreadsheets 2/3 and sorting parcels the rest.I'm sure that's their way of thinking SP. Our office is crying out for a full revision & re-pick. Some walks are unequal to a ridiculous degree, although all Actuals will be skewed due to the office runners that are absolutely obsessed with an early start. CWU & RM both saying tabletop only - no re-sign!Dorset Plodder wrote: ↑27 Jul 2021, 10:09With That ammount of New Builds you'd think it would give the DOM a chance to argue for an extra Postie? Re: Dejection after nearly 33 years
With a new build estate, say three walks back onto it, my guess is that each of them three walks would be given a 1/3 of the DPs on that new build estate, no matter how busy of quiet them walks areCedar_Room wrote: ↑27 Jul 2021, 20:39Our office is crying out for a full revision & re-pick. Re: Dejection after nearly 33 years
There has been a ton of revisions for nearly 20 years going back to SDD in 2003 and most of the complaints are of botched up unmanageable duties.
Makes you think, yes the stats and whatever they used was poor and flawed, but reps and senior colleagues have signed these off.
Just sayin'

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Because they know they will be nowhere near any of the bodged duties. It will be left to some poor new start or someone far down the seniority list to be told to just get on with it and be glad you have a (5.5 hour) duty.POSTMAN wrote: ↑28 Jul 2021, 14:34There has been a ton of revisions for nearly 20 years going back to SDD in 2003 and most of the complaints are of botched up unmanageable duties.

We're having a structural revision at my DO and virtually every duty has been bodged in one way or another.
The 'planner' is only really interested in getting out as quickly as possible and not interested in doing his job properly.
It's not good enough!

Re: Dejection after nearly 33 years
I'm totally convinced Management, at all levels, don't really want to know what the true picture is ....... because it'd mean employing MORE OPGs instead of just loading up the existing workforce. More Holiday Pay... More Sick Pay.... More N.I payments.POSTMAN wrote: ↑28 Jul 2021, 14:34There has been a ton of revisions for nearly 20 years going back to SDD in 2003 and most of the complaints are of botched up unmanageable duties.

I think most of us accept that the job will NEVER get any easier. Everytime we sign up for a New SWW we just claim that extra hour as Pressure OT.
I love that feeling when occasionally I actually manage to finish at my Official Time .... and then I think "Well I should be finishing at this time every day"

Re: Dejection after nearly 33 years
I don't think anyone should feel guilty for giving a bit more than necessary, there's nothing wrong with a good work ethos but nobody likes or should have the piss taken out of them and unfortunately that's where we are with the business at the moment.
