Forced off a duty
A senior OPG in the office has been removed off his walk to accomodate the managers lapsing plan, he has been put on a walk without mutual agreement and is fuming. The rep says he is powerless to do anything as the walk is close to the office and geographically is the best option to lapse that walk. Can anything be done, the walk was signed for in a revision 3 years ago and another revision will be taking place in a few months time.

That’s happened in my office years ago when lapsing first came in , not much can be done , they will just say it’s operational needs .

To be honest this is basically what’s wrong with the company and mentality of staff, just because he’s been there 33 years doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be moved. Tough , just get on with it

If it's close to the DO and doesn't need driving to then the DOM can get anyone (driver or non-driver) to do it

Re: Forced off a duty
It sounds like he took a gamble signing up for the walk if that was always likely to happen, although what does the OPG expect the manager to do, finds a less convenient walk to lapse in order to just suit one OPG's wishes?makingsounds wrote: ↑23 Jul 2021, 19:34A senior OPG in the office has been removed off his walk to accomodate the managers lapsing plan, he has been put on a walk without mutual agreement and is fuming. I'm surprised the Rep wasn't involved in deciding which duty would be lapsed.makingsounds wrote: ↑23 Jul 2021, 19:34. The rep says he is powerless to do anything as the walk is close to the office and geographically is the best option to lapse that walk.
I think in the recent TTR most DOs "Lost" the duty they used to lapse in absorption, to make the required savings. Then the DOM's got to choose another duty to lapse. Hopefully this Senior OPG should be back on the original duty after Summertime Lapsing. In the meantime he'll broaden his experience of how the other duties work.

Re: Forced off a duty
This happened to me after 36 yrs. My problem being that ok fair enough operational needs etc ,but when you’re singling me out & not doing to anyone else in an office with 2-300 I take offence. I take even more offence when you’re going to tell me what to do & not do a repick… aside from this I’m near retirement age & had what turned out to be a broken foot but it all fell on deaf ears…nothing more than good old fashioned bullying & harassment

Re: Forced off a duty
You've kind of got that mixed up, it doesn't matter how long people have been here they shouldn't just be bumped off without any discussion or attempt at a mutual resolution.southoftheriver wrote: ↑24 Jul 2021, 18:20To be honest this is basically what’s wrong with the company and mentality of staff, just because he’s been there 33 years doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be moved. It's not tough, just get on with it, it's piss poor management and not supporting your colleagues when they get screwed over no matter how long they've been in the job is what's wrong with the mentality of the staff.

As soon as the post says a senior then it becomes a how long you have worked issue.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑25 Jul 2021, 15:12You've kind of got that mixed up, it doesn't matter how long people have been here they shouldn't just be bumped off without any discussion or attempt at a mutual resolution.southoftheriver wrote: ↑24 Jul 2021, 18:20To be honest this is basically what’s wrong with the company and mentality of staff, just because he’s been there 33 years doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be moved. Makes sense it's a walk nearer the office though, wasn't this mooted back in the day for summer staffing etc.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑25 Jul 2021, 15:12You've kind of got that mixed up, it doesn't matter how long people have been here they shouldn't just be bumped off without any discussion or attempt at a mutual resolution.southoftheriver wrote: ↑24 Jul 2021, 18:20To be honest this is basically what’s wrong with the company and mentality of staff, just because he’s been there 33 years doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be moved. The rep should be

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Forced off a duty
I believe it's a Trade off .. IF the staff want extra Leave Slots for the Summer then they have to vote to accept Summer Time Lapsing. That's the way it went in my DO. When Staff started saying they didn't want Lapsing the DOM said, "That's Fine but you'll have to accept less Leave Slots, and you said you wanted more Leave Slots .... so you have to Lapse".

I get you but the point is it's being done willy nilly without any fightback or negotiation.Dorset Plodder wrote: ↑25 Jul 2021, 21:33I believe it's a Trade off .. How many on here complaining about double, triple, quadruple lapsing and that was without Covid.
How many extra leave slots going begging?

Re: Forced off a duty
Our problem, probably like many others, is that Lapsing is being used as a Tool to cover for Staff Shortages and Bad Management.
Everytime someone phones in sick the DOMs first thought is to Lapse that Duty. I believe he should be Failing that Duty and booking it down to Sickness ..... but we all know that will affect his Bonus/Annual review.
Some colleagues do not help themselves either by not using the Over Running Procedure and arguing their case that they haven't got the time. Yes I know it's Boring, and Repetitive, but you've got to puit up a fight or the Lapsing will just continue. Alternatively we have colleagues who moan about having to Lapse ..... but take it anyway ... AND still get back way before their Official Finish Time
