MRM.COM : An amber warning for extreme heat has been issued for some areas - remember to protect yourself and stay safe in the sun

https://www.myroyalmail.com/news/2021/07/sun-safety

An amber warning for extreme heat has been issued for the West Midlands, South Wales and South West England which is active until Thursday 22 July.

In areas experiencing temperatures in the high 20s and above, managers must complete a severe weather risk assessment (Intranet link)

Please remind all colleagues to cover, up, apply sun cream and stay well hydrated, and to follow the guidance below:

How to protect yourself from the sun:
  • Cover up: wear loose, cool clothing to keep the sun off your skin
Protect your head: wear a hat, preferably with a wide brim, and sunglasses
Seek shade: come out of the sun when it’s at its hottest and take your break in the shade
Use sunscreen: use sunscreen with a minimum SPF 30 and reapply frequently. You can also check the UV forecast for your area here https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/wea ... 1619654400
Be skin safe: report any mole changes or any other skin concerns
Prevent dehydration: drink plenty of fluids and plan refills (refillable water bottles are available via the uniform ordering website).
It’s not only the sun that may cause a hindrance to some. Lots of colleagues are affected by hay fever at this time of year. Ease your symptoms by following some of the following tips:
If hay fever persists, please speak to your pharmacist.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

And we still have idiots running round with bags on their back to try and finish early, in this heat it’s absolutely ridiculous someone is going to collapse or worse soon it’s just not worth it And with the Royal Mail care if this happened of course not , It’s just all about saving money we have a guy at our place still doing two rounds a day I finish at five or 6 o’clock but doing it just to save money as the guy doesn’t claim that much because he starts at nine it’s absolutely crazy

Has anyone ever tried asking their manager to leave lapsing so you can take extended break time in the shade?

If so, what was the response (as if I don't know!)

‘Unfortunately we can’t do that. We do however have spare water bottles in the managers office, would you like to get yourself one?’
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

This thread arises every time it gets above 30c and guess what? NOTHING CHANGES. The fact is there’s sod all we can do about it. Management and Union don’t care. The only thing you can do is take care of yourself by drinking plenty, wear a hat, get naked if you must, but most importantly WORK TO TIME. :thumbup

Agree (maybe not the getting naked bit), but working to time used to mean finished at 11.30, not 3.30. it's crazy.

Absolutely Agree :thumbup I love the mantra, "Try to avoid delivering during the Hottest part of the day" :left:

TBH I do take my Meal Relief about 1200, and take an extra 5 mins or so in the Heat. Needles to say I return to the office to find the "Runners" have booked their entire 40mins MR as OT! :arrrghhh (Yes I know you're only meant to claim 20 mins at the end of the day.... Tell the DOM! :arrrghhh

I notice I've also upped by fluid intake by an extra litre a day..... Just Keep Drinking :thumbup Combine that with all the previous advice; Sun Hats (Non Crap DARK Navy Blue RM issue :thumbdown ), Sun Block, Shades etc and TBH I'm getting used to the Heat and not suffering really. :cuppa
