14/07/21 Mount Pleasant Bulletin

Post by jimallen »

Hi, find below the Mount Pleasant bulletin of 14 July, the last bulletin before summer break. See you in September!

WE KNOW WHAT'S COMING
We can see that management is getting ready for the
Parcel Sorting Machine... preparing space on the
ground floor, etc... But as to the precise plans they
have re cutting heads, a resign etc., they're just not
saying. However we already know the likely
consequences. So fine, let them keep mum. It won't
prevent us from preparing our own collective "ground"
for defending our jobs.

WE DON'T WANT TO BE SISO-ED
Is management trying to give a "modern" edge to the
old fashioned clock-in/clock-out system by calling it
"SISO" (Scan In - Scan Out)? Well they can call it
whatever they want, this is turning the clock
backwards. And of course, we're told that this will
only be used to record starting and finishing times -
but that's exactly why we won't hear of it.

BIG BRO
And supposedly spy-ders (management calls them
"consoles"!) will be placed "at an appropriate location
agreed locally, preferably near signing on areas". But
preferably, as far as we're concerned, they should be
installed nowhere, period.

IGNORANT MANAGEMENT
So finally we can test ourselves at work, using those
test kits available by the comms room. But guess
what these ignoramus-managers have decided?!!
We're to use them "only if we have symptoms"! But if
we have symptoms, we shouldn't be at work! Isn't
the real use of these instant tests that they can detect
Covid if you don't have symptoms! Because that's
the real danger: passing it on to others without even
knowing it!

TEST EVERY OTHER DAY
So yes, it's good to have the tests, but let's each do
them every couple of days to prevent asymptomatic
spreading! Because even if we're double jabbed we
can still catch this delta variant and infect others -
even if we don't feel sick...

FULL PAY, OBVIOUSLY
And we're still not clear about what happens if we're
pinged by the NHS app? Cases are rising steeply
and some of us have already been asked to self-isolate
for the required 7 days... We need it in black
and white that we will be on full pay if we have to do
this - and especially if we have to do it more than
once!

HIS TRUNK GETS IN THE WAY?
Why is the Elephant walking around without a mask?
What is his excuse for such ignorant behaviour? We
already knew he was a danger, but frankly, this is too
much. So someone needs to volunteer to explain to
him why masks are vital, especially in the workplace!
Or else, he can just clear out of HMP altogether!
PS: If he thinks he is "exempt" because of that
trunk... well, no. It exists only in his imagination.

DROWNS OUT THE NOISE
Pity that the Elephant doesn't put his own house in
order before he tells us to sort out ours. For instance
he doesn't wear what he should wear, but has a go at
us for wearing what (he claims) we shouldn't wear -
for instance our headphones. It's obvious why we
need them.

HAPPY TO HAVE LESSONS
BTW, there's again been pressure on cleaners to
"speak only English". We'd love to. But the lessons
we used to get through the union dwindled and then
just stopped with the pandemic. So we'd be very
happy if these were re-started! And of course, we'll
need paid time off work to do them.

THEIR SOFTWARE NEVER WORKS
Why is the Upstart only saying that maybe we'll get
new PDA/ring scanners to replace the old star guns
in PSA? Does he mean "maybe" we'll get them if the
software works, i.e. only if we're lucky? Not good
enough. We need rid of these old, heavy and often broken
star guns and lighter replacements, ASAP.

BATTLE FOR BATTERIES
Not that the PDA scanners we use in Tracked and
Packets are perfect... most of the time, the batteries
don't last for the whole shift! We end up having to
fiddle with the thing, otherwise we lose count of the
items we've scanned...

SCUPPERING THEIR PLANS
What happens when HR finds out that distribution
drivers without smart phones can't log on to this new
"Workspace" app (or don't wish to)? This probably
hasn't even crossed their brilliant minds.

NOT A CLUE
What must RM-PFS managers' houses look like? We
know they don't know how to clean anything! They
tell us constantly to dilute our cleaning products, just
so they can save a couple of pence. But of course,
diluted products barely remove any dirt (let alone kill
the bugs)! We have to say this again, because the
toilets are going to remain pretty dirty as long as
managers insist on this…

Our PDAs the batteries last, the issue is they will often crash once or twice in a shift. They seem way more prone to crashing during hot weather

1. So get on and use the LFT's when you're supposed to, not when
the managers say - get more off the govt. website if you need them.

2. The pay policy (if you're told to isolate) is in black and white, there's no specification as to where
the requirement for self isolation comes from - you need to read it here: viewtopic.php?f=71&t=99050

Yes, why and how are you still questioning this?

7 days, 10 days, weeks off with Corona sick, days of with adverse reaction to the jab, multiple isolation times like Keir Starmer and now Boris (for example) all with pay.

All in the Corona discussion forum.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
