I would like more information from anyone over proof of exemption the company are asking for

I’m sure that’s not legal?

I could be wrong
Of course it's legal.
You need to prove medical exemption from wearing Royal Mail footwear so why not a mask?
I don’t think they are allowed to ask for medical information. I’m quite sure of that am am willing to bet

Unfortunately it seems most in here have also watched too much tv and social media to think logically for themselves including our beloved union
As someone who cannot wear rm footwear how do i prove i am medically exempt if i dont provide a doctor or other medical professional note to prove this.??

Nobody needs to prove anything.
It isn't a court of law it's a workplace.
The manager will make a judgement call based mostly on the kind of person you are.

If he/she thinks you are lying they are entitled to send you home on the basis that you have refused a reasonable request.
After that it will depend on whether you can convince his superior/appeals manager/employment tribunal that you were right and they were wrong.

But only a complete idiot would take it that far and take that risk unless they had a genuine medical condition so why wouldn't you provide it in the first place?

Yep, my GP said if I was struggling at work after my father's death he would provide me with a sick note.

As for severe distress over wearing a mask, that would come out in the discussion with the manager. I think, even the least trained manager in the world would have an inkling as to whether the person is being intransigent or is really suffering distress. Even if they got it wrong, as long as it was a reasonable decision most tribunals would back a manager.

It does seem a small issue to hoist your petard on.

Without reading through another mask thread, ( which is ironic as I am now putting up another mask thread/news item) depending on your area etc Royal Mail could make it mandatory...

Royal Mail Group retains the right to mandate face coverings in line with a risk assessment review and based on infection rate data.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

No mention of face coverings being mandatory in the new and improved joint statement, just 'encouraged'. In England anyway for the time being.
In England, all employees are strongly encouraged to continue to use face coverings when sharing a van or LGV and when working inside, particularly in enclosed, crowded workspaces (wearing the Royal Mail Group Branded 3-ply face covering or equivalent).

In Northern Ireland face coverings remain mandatory until 26th July 2021.

In Scotland and Wales face coverings remain mandatory until further notice.

DOMs and MCMs could still make them mandatory within their own offices

I think the idea is you do an individual risk assessment for your unit and if it's one of those tight little places you could in theory mandate the wearing of face coverings at a local level.

It will be interesting to see what happens with regards to isolation if the government relaxes the rules. If they were to say that isolation may not be necessary but only if masks are worn you could see RM taking a national approach if it's going to save them losing staff to isolation.
