BURSLEM STRIKERS TO STAY OUT FOR AN EXTRA TWO WEEKS
http://www.cwu.org/news.asp?step=3&NID=1907
The CWU has today (Friday) given notice to Royal Mail that over 100 workers at Burslem delivery office will continue industrial action for an additional two weeks.
Postal workers are striking to defend twelve colleagues who were suspended in September. Royal Mail is refusing to allow their case to be heard by an independent appeals panel despite concerns over bullying and harassment by managers.
The strike was due to finish on 2nd January 2008 but will now continue until 16th January unless Royal Mail moves the issue to an independent appeals panel.
Lee Barron, Midlands Regional Secretary, said: “Postal workers at Burslem are determined to have justice for their colleagues. All the CWU is asking for is that this case be heard by an independent appeals panel which is a standard procedure in these cases. We have the support of the Mayor of Stoke and local MPs for this. What does Royal Mail have to hide?â€

Now if competition is so serious to Royal Mail's future, why are TNT etc not vying to deliver christmas cards???
It's a free market after all, something tells me they would not manage to do the job we do at Christmas.
They are only after big business, not the everyday man in the street.
Feel proud that we are the posties that deliver the Christmas post, the rest would not have a chance.
POWER TO THE POSTIES

Aerial Sharron school of IA/Management
RM got shafted in the Lord Sawyer report and by Success Factor with Oxford MC , RM 's response was "The Royal Mail Way " which was team working being the pancea for all RM's ills , there's also that video about Bristol on that BBC site .Fluke wrote:Its about time headquarters had the rest of us out in support, instead of sitting back and watching our colleagues fight on their own. RM are obviously frightened to death on an independent review and what it might bring to light about the rest of its disgraceful and shambolic behaviour.![]()
They've always been defensive & autocratic but the arrogance is breathtaking . Just a p*** poor style lifted from Old American Mgt textbooks with every drawback going for that style
It's obvious RM want Burslem as the prize scalp .RM could not have it's miners strike as they were under orders from Brown , but if they can run the CWU out of the office , it's a consolation for vain self publicist Leighton & his board & senior mangement , quotes from senior management -"there has to be a culture change -this will be a tipping point no matter how long it takes , this will be bloody , but for the good of RM's future " . The 90's age of deference in 2007 ! with 80's macho managers .
There was a time after the 2003 strikes , when the dodgy fit ups went to NAP , it wouldn't have been a nice experience for the people involved to put it mildly , but eventually the union got them back and RM had to pay back pay for their abject stupidity .
Classic one was Paul Turnbull of Eastern being sacked for shouting scab at a driver and Leighton ringing the Branch Secretary , telling him not to support him . C**T!
WHY DON'T the CWU take RM to Tribunal for detriment for legitimate union activities , unless the CWU consider a civil action against RM is sufficent ; instead of pussy footing about . If you don't stand up to RM you'll get pushed around -it's always been that way !
THE BIG PROBLEM is with Burslem carrying the fight against RM singlehanded ,is it'll turn into another OXFORD , RM will bide their time and come back with a MCM/Area wanting reps heads on a plate ? and the place shut down .
COMPETITION -Translated into English means a nice earner for Leighton & Crozier's city mates .

I just cant understand why we as a Union are pussyfooting about whilst our colleagues are left standing on a picket line and their family's suffer during Christmas. Sure its nice people are sending donations ect, but money and good will ain't gonna win this battle. I hope the managers responsible fecking choke on their turkey this Christmas. This Union is starting to really disgust me.

I would like to thank you all for your support and the support we are getting of the puplic is great, we have to have a independant appeal for our 12 colleagues who are and have been suspended now for months, our pickets lines are strong and there is a feeling of togetherness which really shows and proud to a BURSLEM POSTIE.
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A BETTER NEW YEAR TO US ALL, PLEASE CARRY ON THE GREAT SUPPORT AND TELL AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN ABOUT BURSLEM DELIVERY OFFICE IN STOKE ON TRENT ST6

They obviously have got something to hide
They are obviously worried about what an independant appeal would find out. Otherwise, they would have agreed to it, instead of provoking another Strike. If they handle the matter themselves, they can deal with it from RMs point of view, instead of being impartial.mailsort6 wrote:If the company has nothing to hide they should have these independent appeals.

The rot starts at the top
I've seen the union get people back after dodgy fit ups, post 2003 strikes ; and the cases have EVENTUALLY gone to the NAP , the appeals manager has usually produced damming reports on junior management 's "handling", as he knows the sorry episodes wouldn't look good in a tribunal. You're late wrote:Just adding my support, could be any office the way this shambolic lower management carry out the dictate from their sinister overlords. Total respect to Burslem and i'll keep the office I work at informed and updated.
RM have always been autocratic & above the law , but acting as judge , prosecution and jury to a predetermined outcome tends to upset people , might look good on "Life on Mars " but not in the real world .If you go back to the 70's a era which RM's command & control style is from , you'll find that " God's own policeman " Sir Robert Mark got rid of scores of Met bent coppers .
Unfortunately it begs the question as to who are these glorified floor supervisors trying to impress and who is giving the strict regimented orders . RM have to back pay , the CWU get propaganda to print in The Voice as to how devious to the point of being neurotic and underhand RM really are but it's still fudged and basically a sham which could have been avoided with common sense and discretion.
Area management are too tied up with HR , HR basically carry out "policy" . This is obviously the change in culture RM want .
A system for imbeciles by imbeciles .What sort of idiot in charge has two thirds of his subordinates that are average /below average ?
