Re: Return to shared vans from Monday June 21st
Why does Royal Mail and the CWU only go by England's rules and apply them to workers in Wales, Scotland and NI?
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

I think they wanted a month to get more people vaccinated. They probably expected cases to rise but being vaccinated has proved to bring deaths down even though its around 25k + a day now.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑01 Jul 2021, 10:58I wouldn't count your chickens, cases rising across the country makes it difficult to justify going back to van sharing now but not last month and it's likely they'll continue to rise into the autumn/winter.
I think they kind of painted themselves into a corner last month and it's difficult to see a clear way out without just ignoring the data.
The government is in pretty much the same mess, they delayed last month because of rising cases so what now, just ignore rising cases and open up?
Government still think in riddles though

What happens to offices that refuse to return to van share?

Same as anything, if an individual did it they would probably have to at least make a show of dealing with it sympathetically.
If a whole office did it...probably classed as industrial action.
Might get messy, which side would the union take?
Would be entertaining up until they stopped your pay.

Re: Return to shared vans from Monday June 21st
It wouldn't take a full office to refuse to make it unworkable - for every person who refuses they will still need a driver to go out in a RM van to drop them bags off. If half an office refuses then the other half are forced to go along with it. Not withstanding the official reason for refusal (safety), there are plenty reasons why people won't want it to return - (keep using OMV, start/finish in street, work at own pace etc etc)Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑05 Jul 2021, 21:12Same as anything, if an individual did it they would probably have to at least make a show of dealing with it sympathetically.

Given that all legal covid laws will be dropped on the 19th and all companies can open up to capacity and you can use public transport without masks, i think ultimately they would just go down the dismissal route, Theyve got plenty of agency staff to cover if they needed it.

CWU and RM agreed no van share before 19th but as we know DOMs just do what they like. Utter scumbags. At least it will force me to find another job. I'm done.claretandblue wrote: ↑06 Jul 2021, 12:47We were told all hire vans are going back today, van share back on.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

If van sharing returns on July 19th it won’t just be England it will be the rest of the UK despite the restrictions not being lifted in Scotland for instance till August
They were preparing for June 21st across the board despite that only being the date for England
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

If you read the document that I have linked, obviously I am well versed with it, but going forward there was always discrepancies for each country with regards to what was happening at the time.Acca Dacca wrote: ↑06 Jul 2021, 13:45They don’tPOSTMAN wrote: ↑06 Jul 2021, 13:22They don't, they always seperate each countries different stages.Acca Dacca wrote: ↑05 Jul 2021, 13:12Why does Royal Mail and the CWU only go by England's rules and apply them to workers in Wales, Scotland and NI?

In no way will say Scotland be van sharing if wee widow twanky does not want to lift all restrictions...
Weirdly Jeremy Vine this morning on his program mentioned how for instance someone coming from Wales can take their mask off as they cross the border.
Other countries are behind us making a decision as per Vines poster. EDIT: Ok you said that about Scotland.

Re: Return to shared vans from Monday June 21st
Just wait and see
Every announcement has been based on the England dates and has mentioned nothing about the rest
At no point have they said it will be returning on such and such date in ENGLAND - it’s always just return full stop
They have never said they plan to reintroduce it on July 19th in England only which leads me to believe as soon as it returns in England it will return everywhere

Not exactly, just hoping it will tip me over the edge to get my finger out. As a part time reserve where do I start? Here's 10 for starters.. .Cucumber wrote: ↑06 Jul 2021, 14:21Leaving because van share is returning?Jahpostie wrote: ↑06 Jul 2021, 13:10CWU and RM agreed no van share before 19th but as we know DOMs just do what they like. 1) Ridiculous outdoor workloads that are only going to get worse with these new revisions.
2) Uneven walks. Full timers firing back to the depot at 12 while you are only half way.
3) Harassment to van share every few days even though I've said no.
4) Thrown here there and everywhere like a soiled rag.
5) Harassment when off sick due to physical injury. They'd have you crawl round if you were willing, just to clear the mail.
6) Overtime wrong most weeks to either balance their books or out of spite if I disagree with the DOMs and don't tow the line. Know thy place.
7) Holidays always wrong or requests ignored. You have to chase and chase for holidays or 'missed' overtime. It is tiresome.
8) At least working on your own you don't get done over by your new daily partner giving you the harder loops while he texts his mates how slow you are. It was nice also to take my break rather than rush around so my current partner could get back for Countdown or whatever. It is also tiresome trying to communicate with annoyed partners who wanted so and so and not you today! Having to ask people not to vape or smoke in the van.
9) Never get 2 consecutive days off to recover from fatigue / minor injuries.
10) Negates the ability to do any sport due to the job and injury/fatigue.
I could go on.
Know your place. It's like a 19th century work house. Do you time and you'll eventually get the shittest duty in the office. Err no thanks. The bullshit about the job being well paid for what it is, is exactly that for a part timer - bullshit. The job is too tiring to do more outdoor overtime. By the time you get home, eat and recover that's an extra couple of hours. Effectively it's a full time job for minimum wage.
