Fairly sure the union would have to run a ballot first, iirc "work to rule" could be classed as industrial actionCelgar wrote: ↑19 Jun 2021, 20:48Our DOM doesn't want us start 'working to rule' ,as RM would see it, maybe as our last usage of this 'tactic' resulted in the previous DOM quitting the job. I don't personally agree with the 'working to rule' terminology and the negative connotations associated with it as it is just being paid to do work then go home.

If you don't slow down, work the hours you are paid, then there is too much work to do in the time available and you let the DOM know this. That isn't work to rule as I see it.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑19 Jun 2021, 20:52Fairly sure the union would have to run a ballot first, iirc "work to rule" could be classed as industrial actionCelgar wrote: ↑19 Jun 2021, 20:48Our DOM doesn't want us start 'working to rule' ,as RM would see it, maybe as our last usage of this 'tactic' resulted in the previous DOM quitting the job. If one person does it no.*
If a whole office does it or even the majority at the same time then the assumption is that it's organised and therefore it is.
* Not a work to rule but an overtime ban but still potentially unlawful industrial action.
Work to rule is an entirely different thing (although does often include an overtime ban).

Presumably this is what the joint statement by Terry and Achim refers to.

Re: Royal Mail not paying any O/T after revision
IMO parcel volumes have dropped in the last month. So has mail on most days. We used to get come in for 2-3 o/t in the mornings to do parcels before our start times. Over the last month the number of people asked to come in early for parcels has dropped as well as the hours. A bunch of us used to start 3 hours early everyday expect Tue, now they we start 1 hour early & its rotated so not everyone. Managers says they've getting pressure to cut back.Celgar wrote: ↑19 Jun 2021, 20:48We have been asked not to say anything about but this but I will say a little. Apparently RM are saying the mail volumes have dropped and that they don't want any of us working our days off. I would guess this means they are pushing for more absorption as well. I asked if this meant we could no longer book any overtime/extended and our DOM said this would be the case. I was lead to believe this was not connected with the current revision activity and was just for our region/area but maybe as others are mentioning it this plan is more widespread.
Anyway our DOM is of the opinion that our mail volumes have not dropped significantly(We agree with this statement.), is really p***** off about this change, & is seeking to negotiate us out of it. Our DOM doesn't want us start 'working to rule' ,as RM would see it, maybe as our last usage of this 'tactic' resulted in the previous DOM quitting the job. I don't personally agree with the 'working to rule' terminology and the negative connotations associated with it as it is just being paid to do work then go home.
We take pride in our job and some of us still enjoy it but this kind of s*** really rubs us up the wrong way especially as we have been working so hard during the Covid situation and had scant thanks from those in the high echelons of RM. We know the general public appreciate the work we do though. Nevertheless RM are really barking up the wrong tree if they expect to win on this one. They are just a bunch of lying scumbags to be honest. End of rant. :)
Our parcels are getting cleared even with the reduction of early morning parcel runs. In the past even with all the extra o/t we would fail.
We are still asked to work our days off otherwise walks will fail with all the extra people on leave this time of year. 3 walks failed yesterday. This time last year no one was asked to work their day off & the walk was left to fail.
The work to rule is a gray area. If o/t is not available some of the longer walks will fail without doubt. The managers know this and they know what walks. We all also know some walks are dragging it out to their time to avoid absorption.
Two months ago I was claiming o/t everyday except tue. For the last three weeks its only one or two days a week.

First I've heard of this. Our office is being pressured to do a table top revision, but the DOM and union rep are determined to stand their ground and ignore it, basically. Ban overtime and walks will fail; simple.

How are u going to get the hour off the working week then? It will go above you DOM and rep soon I would guess.Seymour Buts wrote: ↑20 Jun 2021, 20:15First I've heard of this. Let me get this right.
If/when an office needs overtime to run straight after a revision, surely it shows the revision has failed?
I don't buy into the school of thought that offices prefer overtime to better contracts, as there will always be someone willing to take the extra contracted hours as we have plenty part time staff with over 15 years service.

One quick solution or alternative put forward and being considered is to collapse a walk and tweak a few rurals.Grumpyoldmailman wrote: ↑20 Jun 2021, 22:35How are u going to get the hour off the working week then? There's a reproduce letter to DOM/Union Reps on Facebook RM Chat confirming that the RM are looking to reduce agency and ad-hoc overtime costs, apparently a further letter was also sent out confirming that there is no - rumoured - block on recruitment.hawkeye622 wrote: ↑21 Jun 2021, 20:32If this is true I cannot wait to see the s**t show that will inevitably ensue in my office![]()

Re: Royal Mail not paying any O/T after revision
How on earth are they going to reduce ad-hoc overtime at the same time as bringing in unworkable revisions??
Ours is gonna be a total shambles- walks not even completing now have had an hour put on them in quite a few cases.
Just what are they thinking?
