The PSNI won their case in NI which has subsequently been upheld showing liability for 20 years, the 2 year ruling doesn't stand in NI so a separate deal with have to be arranged.

Sounds promising so far, I just hope the criteria isn’t ridiculous. It would be just like RM to say something like you only get average pay if you have your own duty knowing full well most PT don’t have their own. Silly example I know but you get my drift hopefully.

I’m really intrigued to see how they’ll fund this. We are talking many millions of pounds. Possibly pushing £100m. I have a feeling they’ll really crack down on OT now. Appreciate most people are in a different position to me but it wouldn’t bother me if they cut out every minute of OT and just had me doing my 5 hours a day. Although I accept the OT at the minute there is pressure/expected to do it. Taking that away from management by having a complete ban on OT means my job becomes much less tiring, even though I’d have to count the pennies more. We will see.

Sorry but a daft question, if you didn't put a claim in can you still do so? Some people in my office do15 to 25 hours regular overtime every week but at the moment we just get 6 hours s/a each time we go on leave so that works about 36 hours a year

Approximately 70 thousand postal workers perform overtime on a regular basis. This varies in the levels of overtime.

Remember the CWU encouraged individuals to take out claims and 5000 took up this opportunity.

This agreement will not just support those 5000 but all those 70 thousand who perform regular overtime in line with the criteria which is a minimum of 8 hours in a month for 6 months.

Interested to know when the dates are for the backdated 2 years. ie will it be 2 years from, say, 1st August, then the lump sums twice yearly from that specific date?

Can you clarify whether the 2 years back pay is across the whole board, including Northern Ireland?

So does this agreement stop the employment tribunal? i.e CWU brought the case on behalf of employees, so
now that CWU have made an agreement with the employer can the tribunal say - OK you've sorted it, everybody
happy? Crack on then, case closed?

I think this is something that has to completely watertight. It would be just like RM to play games by saying it will take a while to pay up, in the meantime all OT is stopped and RM drag their heels for 2 years. Suddenly it’s 2023 and RM say they are ready to pay up only no one has done any OT so there’s nothing to pay.

Let’s hope the details clear things up.
