"Postal chairman bonus sparks anger

WITH the closure threat hanging over post offices across west Berkshire and Reading there was anger this week when it was revealed the Royal Mail chairman is having his term of office extended and could be in line for a hefty bonus.

Allan Leighton could receive almost £180,000 in performance-related payments on top of his £20,000 salary, and will now stay on until at least March 2009, a year beyond his current contract.

Lib Dem parliamentary candidate for Reading East, Cllr Gareth Epps, said: "This is another kick in the teeth for the thousands of people who have already signed petitions to save the five Post Offices in Reading which are under threat, as well as for staff whose jobs may be lost."

On top of the Reading branches, there are three in west Berkshire and two in Wokingham for the chop, as well as post offices in Newbury, Bracknell and Sandhurst.

Newbury MP Richard Benyon has demanded a debate on the closures in Parliament as soon as possible. Harriet Harman, the Leader of the House, said a discussion might be possible early in the new year. (story continues)"

Seriously I despair of New Labour:---- John Hutton " transforming " public services is a new growth industry , privatisation has made a tremendous contribution to UK plc " WTF ? , " thousands of organisations have prospered in this new industry , employing tens , possibly hundreds of thousands of people" ?????

I'm sure a lot of people are very grateful to the new firms for their jobs as they've held the same roles in the public sector -not ! L&C would be very grateful though !and he's put a BP Director in charge and Board Members from Serco & Lloyds .

It keeps lawyers , bankers & consultants busy with the beaurocracy though . Harriet Harman's husband Jack Dromey of UNITE must have either been privy to or a absolute cretin about New Labour's dodgy donors .

Northern Rock was like Railtrack , a timebomb waiting to go off , a building society turns into a bank & adminstrative nightmare and nearly causes a crash . I'm sure the New Labour MP's in the North East will be all right in the next election . Can't see New Labour making much fuss about somewhere down south with solid tory seats . It'll happen again .

Crapita is the best one , £1 million pound loans then Criminal Records contract & education key stage 3 strategy for £207 million .
Then you've autographed Alaistair Campbell diaries being bought at Gordie's fundraiser at Wembley Stadium for £60,000 , they are registered so it's allright !. The buyer got a £132 million pound contract for MOD office supplies .

Leighton got 800K + 165K bonus & Crozier got 615K + 370 K bonus , Crozier got a £2.2 million bonus in 2005 for hitting targets . The figures were delayed for some reason ! Senior Manager & Board bonuses went up from £4.3 million to £7.4 million though profits were dramatically down .
