The link between using a phone whilst driving and being drunk is an old story and the conclusion that was reached was you can always stop talking but you cannot sober up in an instant. But in saying that it's always better to pull over to talk on the phone imho.

The thing that I could never understand, was why it's ok to talk to a passenger, but not on a handsfree kit. They have finally cleared that one up this time, and it's now credible. Why couldn't they have done that a few years ago?

I'm also glad that they are finally dealing with the worst offenders. There are some, who treat their vehicles as mobile offices, and don't pay enough attention. If they cause a crash by doing that now, they will get charged with dangerous driving, instead of careless driving. That's where the potential for a 2 year Jail sentence comes from. Perhaps they will take their responsibilities as drivers seriously now.

It's not adviisable to use a phone while drunk, but there's no law against it.
