Foreign holiday - isolation
As more destinations get added to the Amber list, I am looking to get opinion on the 10day mandatory isolation period. Should this come out of your holiday?

Yes, it's an absolute no brainer. RM and/or the UK gov aren't responsible for an individual's holiday choices.

Re: Foreign holiday - isolation
It's not really a serious question is it?
A decent manager might give you some other options, unpaid or the opportunity to work the time back but if I was that desperate to get away this year I'd make sure I had 10 days in the bank just in case.
There were similar issues after the volcanic eruption in Iceland a few years back where people couldn't get home. Same result.

I would also imagine that its a different matter going on holiday and there is a change from green to amber while you are there requiring you to quarantine on return. If, on the other hand, you go on holiday to a country knowing that you will have to quarantine on your return without having applied for leave to cover the quarantine period and that extra leave being approved, then the quarantine period would be an unauthorised absence and dealt with accordingly.

No, it's the same.
You know the risk when you book the holiday that the situation may change.
It would only be unauthorised if you failed to contact your manager on entering quarantine. Otherwise it would be authorised unpaid leave or annual leave. If, on the other hand, you go on holiday to a country knowing that you will have to quarantine on your return without having applied for leave to cover the quarantine period and that extra leave being approved, then the quarantine period would be an unauthorised absence and dealt with accordingly.
