There MAY and I emphasise the word may be a case for the CWU to take RM to Tribunal for detriment regarding Union activities like the GMB did with Asda sending letters out to staff asking them if they wanted local pay deals rather than collective bargaining .

There is supposed to be a civil action , in the past there was dodgy fit ups but they eventually went to NAP , it won't happen with Senior/Area's current attitude .

However the charges may be deliberately vague , obscure & ambigious for that very reason and RM may turn it into a expensive tribunal test case to weaken the Union . That's why I think the CWU has shy-d away from doing so in the past .

there has been cases when places have stuck out like a sore thumb , with poor EP's , sick records , Leighton's basically a supermarket man and the tactic is to send in trouble shooting managers . With RM it tends to be Board men to the bone "Messiah " type managers .Soon saw right through one particular one , better operator but that's only because of the mediocrity . Can't say I'd much sympathy for some of the managers he wanted rid of.

I'm convinced Burslem is about breaking the Union's back to make people more compliant elsewhere .It's been done at Manchester & Liverpool in a now privatised industry .

In january almost every branch in the UK will be holding their AGMs.

I urge every single members on here to put a motion to their AGM calling for their branch to offer major financial support for Burslem!!

This would send a united message to Royal Mail and let them know we will not see our colleagues bullied.

This battle may only be in one unit but if the cwu lose it here (in possible strongest office in uk) then we will all be sitting ducks.

Times are hard for all of us but remember these guys are out to protect the rights we take for granted. Lets make sure we help them carry on what truly is an inspirational david versus goliath battle!!

Royal Mail should authorise an independent review into the suspension of 12 staff in order to bring an end to the postal strike, according to Stoke-on-Trent South MP Rob Flello.

Mr Flello voiced his support for striking workers in Burslem while he joined postmen at the Longton delivery office on their rounds.

About 100 workers from the Burslem delivery office walked out on Tuesday in a row over the suspension of 12 staff.

The industrial action, which will affect tens of thousands of customers in the ST6 postcode area, will continue until January 2.

The Communication Workers' Union (CWU) wants an independent review of Royal Mail's investigation process into allegations of bullying and harassment.

Mr Flello said: "I think Royal Mail need to do the right thing and have this looked at, perhaps by someone completely out of the area, to see what's going on.

"I think an independent review is the best thing, it wouldn't hurt anyone.

"I hope the situation will be resolved satisfactorily sooner rather than later and people will be back to work. It doesn't help anyone to have this dispute, particularly at this time of year."

Royal Mail has agreed to reinstate three of the workers suspended, but no decision has been made on the other nine. All 12 remain off work in a show of solidarity.

Royal Mail has drafted in 200 managers from across the West Midlands to deliver mail and say that people will feel no effect on services.

A Royal Mail spokesman today said that no further talks between the company and the union were planned.

Lee Barron, Midlands regional secretary of the CWU, said: "I welcome the comments from MP Rob Flello. Everybody apart from Royal Mail knows the way to stop this dispute is to agree to an independent appeals panel and review of the Burslem office. The strike will stop the minute they agree to this. The workers are supporting this strike 100 per cent which tells the picture."

Mr Flello was at Longton delivery office yesterday to see how workers are dealing with the Christmas rush, and went out on a round in Meir Hay with postie Alison Lockett.

He said: "I have been to meet postal workers at Christmas before but I thought this year I thought rather than coming along and shaking hands I would show a bit of solidarity with them, and go out and see the hard graft they do. I think they are unsung heroes who are out posting letters in rain, shine or snow."

Mrs Lockett, aged 37, has been a postal worker for three years.

She said: "The round usually takes between four and four-and-a-half hours. This week has been crazy with all the Christmas post, and I think it's good Rob is coming to see what goes on and how much mail we are delivering."

Mick Hall, delivery office manager, added: "I think it's great he's come to see how the team works."

Longton postie, you are obviously not in the CWU and how would you know if there getting paid. There's no unity up at Longton and that's what keeps Burlem workers together as one. Its a great place to work and that why we all stick together........IDIOT

well mr flello will support the strike because his mail is not affected but it would be a different story if his mail. our mail sometimes arrives at 4.00pm in the afternoon or not at all if the postworkers cant be arsed to go in . i was going past scotia road on Tuesday afternoon and guess what the striking post workers were all standing there in front of the tv cameras all lookin hard done too came back ten mins later to pick up a package from the post depot guess what no tv cameras or press and then no striking post workers they all had there picis done for the papers and tv then gone home to have a lie down (oh how life is hard for some people). they should spare a thought for the familes and pensioners who are waitng for importent letters which wont be coming till after xmas at this rate when they can be arsed to come back to work. the people from the st6 area are being used as pawns in the cat and mouse games the striking postworkers are playing, you will all be moaning when people start to hurll insults at you when you all decide to start back to work people from st6 have had enough now. the managers are doing there best but if they not from the area itself they cannot find there way round as good as local postman. SACK THE LOT OF THEM AND GIVE THE JOBS TO PEOPLE WHO WANT TO WORK

Yes, interesting to see Rob Flello's comments, he was with us yesterday and saw that we aren't the same as our Burslem colleagues, we want to do a good job. We've now seen that the union are inviting people to a 'picket party' on Christmas Eve - come along and join the party the flyer says, this is embarrassing and does highlight how serious people are really, it's one big joke and people are getting paid by the union by the way !!

Is it surprising that MP Rob Flello, a man with very strong union roots, has chosen to support the posties. From the previous comments on this subject it is evident that the vast majority of the voting public do not support this action. There was me thinking that MPs represent their constituents! Why don?t these people think of their thousands of customers, especially over the festive period, rather than 12 individuals who have the weight of the unions to fight their battles.

Stoke MPs and the Mayor of Stoke have today (Thursday) supported postal workers on strike in Burslem and have joined with the Communication Workers Union in calling for the case of twelve suspended workers to be heard by an independent appeals panel.

Labour MPs for Stoke-on-Trent Joan Whalley and Robert Flello along with the Mayor of Stoke Mark Meredith have called on Royal Mail to allow the case to be heard by an independently chaired appeals panel. Royal Mail is still refusing to apply this standard process to the case of workers suspended in September at Burslem delivery office.

Midlands Regional Secretary, Lee Barron, said: “The CWU has put forward a sensible way to resolve this dispute and get the post moving. Royal Mail is being completely unreasonable in its refusal to allow this case to be heard by an independent appeals panel.

“Considering the seriousness of the situation and lack of trust in Royal Mail management at the site it’s plainly obvious that a level of independent judgement needs to be brought in. We are glad that the local community and politicians are showing strong support for the resolution of this dispute by an independent appeals panel and we will continue to work to resolve this dispute with Royal Mail.â€
