Where have all the postie jobs gone today?

Post by pepasimjenjer »

I've been looking here https://jobs.royalmailgroup.com/go/Post ... g/4480301/ for postie jobs and there's always been around 40-50 of them spread around the country every time I've looked, with a steady turnover. So I saw one last night nice and local I was going to apply to today, but that one and all the others have disappeared!
Just wondered if anyone knows what's going on and whether the jobs will be back soon....?

There are currently no open positions matching this category or location.
That's weird.
Maybe changing the job description of something or some technical glitch?
Can't see a blanket ban on recruitment happening but you never know, it's happened in the past.

Just tried here. If you search for "Postperson", NO jobs show up anywhere in the country. I still get the emails advising when new positions are advertised and when clicking on the link to a position locally advertised only last week, the page returns "Sorry, this position has been filled.", which seems very sudden. I suspect they have put a freeze on all delivery jobs. Maybe they are only looking to fill vacant positions from the 10,000 temporary workers kept on following the pandemic pressure?

There are other positions being advertised, but only in other areas of the business like fleet and IT. The ONLY positions in delivery, collections or processing are a handful in management. Maybe this has something to do with the revision exercise which is underway? For the benefit of new starters or people looking to join, all the delivery and collection rounds are being reviewed, to take into account changes in the workload and number of delivery points. The aim of these exercises is normally to try and trim the number of hours available to each delivery office, so less staff are needed.

"Coming soon: We have a number of Postie roles nationwide going live on Tuesday 6th April!"

It was suggested to me that any of the retained 10,000 staff hoping to transfer to a permanent role wouldn't be now transferred until the new tax year, so it'll be interesting to see how many jobs are actually now advertised next week at the start of the new tax year. Although why the jobs previously advertised have been removed is a bit strange.

As someone who is about to start at RM soon, this worries me if I'm not needed.

There's no need to worry as there's now 70(?) postie jobs advertised!

Good news, I checked that link again just now, and 47 vacancies for "Postperson with Driving" have magically appeared! As someone else suggested, maybe suspending them till the new tax year was some sort of tax dodge! The new tax year started yesterday.
