Side effects and sickness from a Coronavirus vaccination : Does the absence get recorded as a Covid absence ( not part of the attendance procedure) or a normal absence that 'could' lead to a warning

Post by POSTMAN »

Does the absence get recorded as a Covid absence (and therefore not part of the attendance procedure) or is it a normal absence that 'could' lead to a stage warning?

If employees are unwell following a vaccination , the absence should be recorded based on the symptoms i.e. temperature, sore arm.
In terms of attendance process, in the short term the absence would be discounted as it relates to coronavirus.

If the absence is prolonged, it may be considered in terms of counting it towards the attendance process, depending on the absence, as generally side effects are not expected to last more than a week.

Time off for dependents doesn't affect the attendance process

It's authorised special leave.

Yes, the 1st post.
It is an email from the Coronavirus helpline from my bff Vicky.

If you're worried, contact them your self and ask the same question that I highlighted in the 1st post at coronavirus.advice@royalmail.com

Can you go back to normal activities after having your vaccine?

The UK Government advise that you should be able to resume activities that are normal for you as long as you feel well. If your arm is particularly sore, you may find heavy lifting difficult. If you feel unwell or very tired you should rest and avoid operating machinery or driving. You should inform your manager if you are fatigued or feel unwell.

Am I right in thinking reading that, that you can have upto a week off (7days) with pay and not be issued a stage 1?

Due to have mine soon and just want to make sure on the ifs and buts in case I have a bad time with it!

Some people in our office have took the mickey with the corona mainly the workshy ones!!

Also do you have to prove you've been jabbed? Mine will be out of work hours on my day off.

No proof is needed but you get a small card to carry around with after your 1st jab, its is then updated with the 2nd Jab. That's for medical and travel use I think, but RM should accept it.

As to stages from the Injection, you still need to comply with the absence procedure as regards to sick notes but unless you are tight on a stage you should be fine.

The advice says prolonged but isn't specific. I would think 7 days absence could be considered prolonged as most adverse effects only last a few days at most, as with most things RM it comes down to your manager and your interaction with them.
