Regardless of how management deem fit to decide what mail goes out the door, mixing live mail into collections, and however else people like to "slim down" what they actually deliver, is just asking for trouble.

No sign yet of the council tax forms going through, they've got to be due through any day now. Think we've all the census stuff through now

Any idea why the majority are A5 size and then there's a random A4 census form every now and then ... It's Not a LARGE PRINT item? :cuppa

It's where they've requested a printed copy of the census form

Cheers SP. :thumbup I take it the A5 letters just contain an access code for filling it in an on-line? I'd be surprised if all the customers on my duty actually requested an on-line survey. It's a Fairly Old Demographic and a lot of them aren't that Tech Savvy ... perhaps the on-line census was the default option? :hmmmm

I get plenty of catalogues for Comfortable Shoes .... Gardening Supplements .... and Cruise Offers to keep me busy! :cuppa

This is not true, I received a large A4 census form last week and I've NEVER requested a printed copy before.

same here is been heavy all round.
my only way of coping is to thin the job out.
like when you have a hair cut, the barber will cut the length and also thin out your hair.
as i do my delivery, any houses with unimportant mail can be put to the back and delivered the next day.
so i usually end up with a big bundle, but its easy to sort out. chuck a few white letters and any with second class stamps or redirection stickers in with my box collections.
any magazine type stuff back in the sorting frame maybe in the wrong holes so it doesnt look obvious.
lastly anything to the occupier or householder just stick back in thedelivery frame.
must save me half hour each day.
So when did you become God deciding who gets what. Twa7s like you should be sacked ,it used to be called wilful delay of mail, perhaps your barber has accidentally cut off the blood flow to your brain

Have you ever requested printed copies of any form for any government stuff (car tax, DVLA, or any other official stuff that you would either fill out an online form or a printed form?

:hmmmm As a Business that relies on MAIL I would have though it was in everyone's long term interests to request EVERYTHING in printed form?

I cannot understand the logic of Posties who say, "I do everything online because I don't want loads of junk mail dropping through my letterbox" Isn't that a bit like Turkeys Voting for Christmas? It all helps to keep us in a job. :hmmmm

I was given a different point of view by a customer who used to get LOADS of what we might call junk mail. When I asked him if he'd rather not have as much he said, "No my son's a printer (Pre Covid) and all these catalogues help to keep him in Business. Plus you have to think about the models ... the photographers .... ink & paper suppliers etc". I could see his point. :cuppa

Ease up.

Every postie trims at some point.

A type of trimming is even frequently endorsed by managers these days. "Just make sure you get the tracked done" etc.

I can understand the point of view but see it as flawed. The economy is always changing and what this thinking does is keep dated companies on life support rather than fuel impetus for expanding or adapting to meet the requirements of the market. Video tapes are a dated technology and catalogues are going the same way (never forget the infamous 'Sky Mags'). It's a similar line of thinking a colleague displayed when I put something in a bin, getting out the crew bus: "you should always throw it on the ground as it keeps litter pickers in a job". I need not comment on the environmental harm of either instances.

That being said, it's probably in the humble postie's best interest for mail to be busy.

you're not the only one. I work in an amalgamated unit, was put on a fairly quiet round the last few weeks. First week without a problem. Second was horrendous. Get transferred to a different sector (don't mind that, I'm a floater), only to find out postie i'm covering has been off sick for a week and the manager's not covered it. This walk is about 9/10 loops and all habe triple mail, maybe more, plus 50/60 oversized. Told boss I'd have to alternate but I'd get it done.

Soon changed my attitude when i found out the woman on the paired walk is not only misorting like crazy but is chucking some of her packets onto my york. Caught her doing it multiple times and ended up handing about half a yorkie to her when she was giddy about getting out early.

Always make a point of telling managers if they get me in early the round will be covered properly but they always end up saying "nah we're alright, Miss. Sort's got it covered.
