THE search is on for first-class postmen and women!

Royal Mail is asking householders in the Ribble Valley to nominate postmen and women who are the unsung heroes in their community.

The company wants to hear about postal staff who are charity fund-raisers in their spare time, have performed a public-spirited act or dealt with an emergency while doing their deliveries.

Last year Royal Mail was contacted by thousands of customers who nominated their postman or woman as an "unsung hero".

Last year's winner was Grimsby postman Norman Walker whose actions helped save a man's life, with no thought to his own safety.

Customer nominations should be sent to: First Class People Awards, Royal Mail, First Floor, 148 Old Street, London, EC1V 9HQ, giving as much information as possible about the postman or woman, plus your contact details, so your name can be entered into the customer prize draw to win £1,000 in holiday vouchers.

Closing date for nominations is January 25th.

It does not matter if you do not know the postman or woman's name – Royal Mail will be able to identify him or her from the delivery round if you give supply the delivery address and postcode.

...... the successfull winner will be a regular rural postie.
Rural posties have a VERY important status in a village/rural/ agricultural community.
Your average urban postman/woman may as well be a ghost in the fog.
Industrial parks are little different. It's straight to reception then out once the post is deposited.
My money is on a rural duty winning.
