How big an impact D+4 will have depends on the take up but a lot of DSA customers like the banks, advertisers and utility companies might not want that unless there's a huge cost difference.
I think that many of them will move over to the D+4 product. Do you really think that RM would bring it in, if very few DSA customers were going to use it? RM will have almost certainly done surveys to find out what the demand for it is before introducing it after LAT never really took off.

They brought in 'Consumer Collections', which has had a miserable take up so far in my area, so I don't think that all RM's hopes survive contact with reality.

There's absolutely no way RM will move to a Monday to Friday operation. They will definitely want to deliver packets 7 days a week. Ultimately, as you say, they may well wish to go to alternate day mail delivery Mon-Sat, but as Woody says, they can't do that in the near future, dropping Saturday mail delivery is as close as they might get.

However impact on non-drivers will likely be significant (it will be for drivers too, in a different way). Many of our HCT deliveries are already travelling quite a long distance. I don't think many walkers (who tend to be getting on a bit) are going to be happy needing to walk a couple more miles each day.

If RM went to every other day for letters and flats then that would give non-drivers the choice of starting to drive for RM if they want to stay full time or going part time.
You're doing it again.
RM won't and can't do this.
There will be at least 5 day letters delivery for the foreseeable future. Ofcom's own report says that. How big an impact D+4 will have depends on the take up but a lot of DSA customers like the banks, advertisers and utility companies might not want that unless there's a huge cost difference.

Even with that impact the most likely outcome is larger deliveries covering wider areas but you're still time limited.

Stop fussing over non drivers, they're a very small piece of the equation.
I think there is still thousands of non drivers on deliveries
I work in a small unit and there is about 10 non drivers a mix of full and part timers

It's up to Ofcom at the end of the day, so who knows how it will go.
If it was only tracked, recorded and specials being delivered on a Sat you could reduce the staffing levels, if its all parcels going out then what's the point as you would still need most of the staff in.

I work in a fairly large unit and nearly 20% of the delivery staff are non-drivers, most of them full time and with 20+ years seniority. So yes, it's not a small issue.

If a D2D only duty ever existed, how many walks worth could that duty do each day (probably no need to prep on a frame)?

They're not going to pay anyone £12+ an hour to deliver D2D.
As far as how many duties you could deliver if you're hitting every door probably one before you're knackered.

Same here. Our office has plenty of non-drivers. Plenty of experienced posties on the cushy HCT duties and then there are many who have opted to pair up with a driver on the van share malarkey. It has caused no end of problems especially if you're the mug that has to drive. Never mind the Unit rep says you can always leave any loops and packets if you want to work to your time. Well, I didn't know that.

Quick question: how many non-drivers are working past their time because their driver colleague wants to work to their time?? They could quite easily get a bus or taxi back to the office if they don't mind taking out an extra loop and working a bit later, but alas, they never do. Some of them even want dropping off home when they finish!

Doubt that'll be allowed anymore now that all vans will have Trimble installed

All Trimble does is tell the screws that some runners drive like maniacs, speeding and braking harshly.
