Parcel size for van duties.

Post by Manboat »

Heard that anything that doesn’t go through the letterbox is gonna go with dedicated van duty, thought it was roughly shoebox size or above going this way, rounds are gonna be made huge if that is this case surely. Is this a local thing that needs to be agreed or nationwide.

Some letterboxes are very small.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Parcel and normal duties would be huge wouldn’t they, would need much more van duties than I thought they’d be needing, going off today would be more than half if not more parcels going on the van.

They "Used" to have metal templates that fitted onto the drop bag frames. If a parcel went through the hole it was for the "Postie" ....If it didn't it went to the "Van". Don't know if we'll be using something like that again? :hmmmm

As mentioned if we threw out everything that didn't fit through the letterbox we'd have bugger all to do. That's not practical at all .... I've got some older houses with Cute LITTLE letterboxes that you couldn't get a DVD through. :arrrghhh

I'm sure it's probably Bullshit that some DOMs thought up to save a bit of docket? Sometimes it's more a case of How BIG a parcel should we be delivering in a van. I've had some that literally take up 25% of the load space .... you're pushed to get the rest of the delivery in! :cuppa

Apparently there was a workplace chat the other day about it with rep, manager and staff (who were in that day/time anyway), suppose we’ll find out soon enough but just thought it was only 15% roughly put on the vans.

That’s all well & good but what if you had 6 or 7 or more shoebox size parcels for one loop? We have our oversized taken most days & we only put the smallest 5 parcels with each loop, the rest go with the oversize.

Argh right, we have a handful but are mainly van share duties. Reading two loops post back again it does sound like van share to be honest but then you’d just be doing the oversized yourself. If it was hct only then you don’t really do it in loops do you, either way I’m still concerned over taking a massive chunk of parcels away from duties and being left with declining mail and economy mail product coming in.

We see things like microwaves, TVs, massive child's car seats, lawn mowers, etc pass through on Tracked

Not Very HEAVY at all .... but I find the most annoying things to deliver are Bloody Balloons! :arrrghhh FFS Why you have to send someone a bloody great balloon is beyond me. I can hardly see it being cost effective .... never mind about the re-cycling aspect. :cuppa

They've been sent through the system for many years, as SDs before Tracked was intruduced

I've noticed a vast increase in this type of Birthday Tat ..... I suppose it's because of Covid (what isn't nowadays) .... I expect normally they'd turn up at their Families House with all this crap. Now they're no allowed so they get the usual companies to send them, along with a MASSIVE Card that's says, "Please Do Not Bend"! :cuppa

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
